DATE: December 21, 2018... OCCASION: making it to Christmas break, cookies made, presents almost wrapped, we turn to watch our favorite Christmas cartoons... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... pours a brilliant golden body, cloudy and aswirl with bubbles and life... its head is thick, white, and creamy, cambered in sections and bolstered in others... like its namesake mom, this is a looker... thick mango and peach up front and center, with grapefruit, lemon, and mellow malts like toffee... also, some spiciness that cannot really be ascribed to a singular element--the closest I can call it is tiki oil... a dish detergent or -like heaviness hangs in the nostrils, slightly this feels inviting, slightly dry at the finish and crisp, aggressive at the teeth--its 7.5% ABV lends itself to a syrupy thick fruit cocktail... almost boozy, but more punchy... the lemon is more pronounced in the flavor than the aroma, which pairs with the mango and grapefruit appreciably... this is a good choice for a night of celebration and release--strong but not overpowering, tasty but not too bitter... Evil Genius does it again with a worthwhile IPA...

Had this one on-tap at a bar in Princeton, NJ.
Overall, this beer is pretty good and certainly drinkable. It's clearly citra-hoppy, but also a bit sweet. In general, the taste is a bit mild for a modern american IPA - or at least for my pallate.
Not much on the aroma, although mine was served a bit on the chilly side. Perhaps this is the cause, though I doubt it.
The feel was a bit disappointing. The pour resulted in a thick, dense and creamy head, however little carbonation remained while I was drinking it.

Pours a slightly cloudy medium yellow with significant head.
Smell is Citra hops all the way.
Taste is a surprisingly sweet malt forward followed by pear and lemon citrus.

Had it on draft at a local pub. Not too much citrus or hoppiness. Not too high on ibu scale. Enjoyed its taste. Will get it again

The universal cheat code for any IPA is Citra. The use of these hops are sure to brighten the fruit profile, aid in an herbal balance and ensure a softly resinous finish for drinkability and refreshment. With those mechanisms in place, Evil Genius' IPA definitely has it going on.
Light amber and deep golden, the frothy ale kicks off with a scent of caramelized citrus, laced with spicy, grassy botanicals, tropical fruit and stone fruit. Sweet on the front of the tongue, a juicy burst of honey with caramel, agave and toastiness brings about a strong suggestion of granola early on.
As the sweetness subsides on the middle palate, a hop dominant tone begins to command the taste with ripe tangerine, nectarine and mango and apricot, all seemingly on the over ripened side. The ale trends lightly toasty with malty remnants as the hops develop a grassy bitterness with the taste of spruce, chive and hemp with a spicy, bitter balance.
Medium bodied and creamy dry, the IPA resists any aggressive dryness with a linger of caramelized malts that linger to support the Citra hops and its spicy citronella glory. A medium long bitterness outlasts the sweetness for a crisp, lightly astringent grassiness to close.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.
L---Hazy, deep golden color. Thick white head that receded quickly and left good lacing.
S---Hoppy. Pine & citrus. Grapefruit & lemon.
T---Weaker than the smell, but follows it. Pine, grapefruit & lemon.
F---Juicy & wet. Nicely carbonated.
O---Nothing special, but a quality beer. I'll have another, please.

Pretty strightforward. Less complex than a lot of other IPA's but that can be a good thing at times. I'd drink it again but I wouldn't seek it out.

Dark copper colored with a fingernail of off white. I'm smelling peach and lemon. The aroma is a bit muddled. I'm tasting strong mango flavors with some peach which seems to dominate the flavor. The mouth is resinous and lightly sticky.

Hazy orange color. Medium to lingering white collar with a little lacing. Very noticeable hoppy aroma, not overpowering hoppy taste that the aroma led me to believe to expect.
