12oz bottle into a pint glass. Freshness dating is so tiny, you'd need a microscope. Not helpful EG

Looks good in the glass though. Slightly hazy yellow body, decent white head persists throughout leaving nice lacing.

Faintly sweet and light citrus aroma.

Upon tasting, the word that immediately comes to mind is balance. It's not particularly bitter, and the citrus flavors aren't strong. It's a little dry as well. But very drinkable.

Mouth well above medium, finish dry and a touch of sour bitterness.

Overall, a pleasant surprise here, a well balanced easy drinking basic IPA.

Look: Hazy orange/amber with a small white head.
Smell: Light lemon and fruit aroma with caramel sweetness. Smells a little strange to me. No date on the bottle, so not sure if it's due to age or not.
Taste: Hazy IPA flavor. Juicy sweetness, hop spiciness, and a hint of vanilla/lactose. Pretty tasty and interesting.
Feel: Medium- to thick-bodied.
Overall: My first beer from this brewery -- I've been irrationally avoiding them due their cutesy beer names. Honestly, this beer is pretty tasty and interesting.

Misses something with a slight weird edge in the water.
a) Excellent color, lace, slight haze body, last.
s) Underwhelming aroma: caramel malt, candied citrus, tropical fruit and hay barn.
t) Sweet upfront with candied orange peel, honey and caramel, then laying into grain and hay barn. With the slight over ripened citrus, onion, and dung flavor hanging around.
f) Medium bodied, creamy, dry cleansing finish, astringent wine-like good first beer. Better as it warms.

On tap at Zinburger in Edison. Pours a golden, effervescent hue with moderate frothing. Moderate aroma replete with hints of citrus and grapefruit. Similar overall flavor profile.

DATE: December 21, 2018... OCCASION: making it to Christmas break, cookies made, presents almost wrapped, we turn to watch our favorite Christmas cartoons... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... pours a brilliant golden body, cloudy and aswirl with bubbles and life... its head is thick, white, and creamy, cambered in sections and bolstered in others... like its namesake mom, this is a looker... thick mango and peach up front and center, with grapefruit, lemon, and mellow malts like toffee... also, some spiciness that cannot really be ascribed to a singular element--the closest I can call it is tiki oil... a dish detergent or -like heaviness hangs in the nostrils, slightly this feels inviting, slightly dry at the finish and crisp, aggressive at the teeth--its 7.5% ABV lends itself to a syrupy thick fruit cocktail... almost boozy, but more punchy... the lemon is more pronounced in the flavor than the aroma, which pairs with the mango and grapefruit appreciably... this is a good choice for a night of celebration and release--strong but not overpowering, tasty but not too bitter... Evil Genius does it again with a worthwhile IPA...

Had this one on-tap at a bar in Princeton, NJ.

Overall, this beer is pretty good and certainly drinkable. It's clearly citra-hoppy, but also a bit sweet. In general, the taste is a bit mild for a modern american IPA - or at least for my pallate.

Not much on the aroma, although mine was served a bit on the chilly side. Perhaps this is the cause, though I doubt it.

The feel was a bit disappointing. The pour resulted in a thick, dense and creamy head, however little carbonation remained while I was drinking it.

Pours a slightly cloudy medium yellow with significant head.
Smell is Citra hops all the way.
Taste is a surprisingly sweet malt forward followed by pear and lemon citrus.

The universal cheat code for any IPA is Citra. The use of these hops are sure to brighten the fruit profile, aid in an herbal balance and ensure a softly resinous finish for drinkability and refreshment. With those mechanisms in place, Evil Genius' IPA definitely has it going on.

Light amber and deep golden, the frothy ale kicks off with a scent of caramelized citrus, laced with spicy, grassy botanicals, tropical fruit and stone fruit. Sweet on the front of the tongue, a juicy burst of honey with caramel, agave and toastiness brings about a strong suggestion of granola early on.

As the sweetness subsides on the middle palate, a hop dominant tone begins to command the taste with ripe tangerine, nectarine and mango and apricot, all seemingly on the over ripened side. The ale trends lightly toasty with malty remnants as the hops develop a grassy bitterness with the taste of spruce, chive and hemp with a spicy, bitter balance.

Medium bodied and creamy dry, the IPA resists any aggressive dryness with a linger of caramelized malts that linger to support the Citra hops and its spicy citronella glory. A medium long bitterness outlasts the sweetness for a crisp, lightly astringent grassiness to close.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

L---Hazy, deep golden color. Thick white head that receded quickly and left good lacing.

S---Hoppy. Pine & citrus. Grapefruit & lemon.

T---Weaker than the smell, but follows it. Pine, grapefruit & lemon.

F---Juicy & wet. Nicely carbonated.

O---Nothing special, but a quality beer. I'll have another, please.

Dark copper colored with a fingernail of off white. I'm smelling peach and lemon. The aroma is a bit muddled. I'm tasting strong mango flavors with some peach which seems to dominate the flavor. The mouth is resinous and lightly sticky.

Hazy orange color. Medium to lingering white collar with a little lacing. Very noticeable hoppy aroma, not overpowering hoppy taste that the aroma led me to believe to expect.

While I’ll agree this isn’t a great beer it’s better than the ratings indicate. Great smell and quite drinkable. I’ll agree taste is lacking and feel is weak however this is a quality beer. Had it on tap In the city of brotherly love.

Evil Genius Beer Company "Stacy's Mom"
12 fl. oz brown glass bottle without production codes or freshness dating
$2 @ Weis, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: So this is Evil Genius' most popular beer? Let's see. The body is a hazy deep gold and the head is off-white. It's already dropping, which is odd. Maybe my glass isn't quite "beer clean", I'll have to give them a pass on appearance. I can smell the hop resins from a foot away, and when I raise the glass to my nose I get lots of tropical fruit as well. I'm finding grapefruit, orange, and pine. The flavor offers an interesting maltiness that's just lightly caramelish, and the fruits that were so bright in the nose are much more subdued. Mostly I get orange, and that lingers in the dry finish. It doesn't really seem that bitter, at least for an IPA, but there is some lingering in the finish as well. Medium leaning medium-light in body and gently crisp. Ehh, it's OK. It's just a shame the flavor doesn't match the aroma, that would be great.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with tall, long lasting, fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of citrusy hops, bready and caramel malt and a lot of tropical fruit. Body is full and crisp. Citrusy hops, bready malt, caramel and tropical fruit fill the mouth. Finish is long and dry. Very nice brew.

Picked up a bottle at the grocery. Poured into a pint glass. Got a decent head and mild lacing as I drank it with my dinner. Smell is pleasant but not strong citrus. Taste is a little metallic and flat. Decent IPA but doesn't stand out at all. I am interested in trying more from this brewery since I thought it was local Philadelphia but label says bottled in Connecticut. Confusing. Oh well....

Faint citrus aroma. No juice in the flavor. Hop flavor is flat. No bitterness. A very watered-down version of an IPA. Contract brewed in Bloomfield CT (Evil Genius is a PA-based brewer).

I expected more of a Citra taste, could be the high ABV overuled the flavor a bit here.

Not much head, cloudy in color, not a great overall aroma but not a bad beer and one worth trying.

It doesn't look great, but it tastes better than it looks. Easy to drink and not remarkable, but good. It's a bit thin on mouthfeel and a shade to bitter.

L - This brew pours into a chalice the color of straw, with a thin white head.

S - Grapefruit, pine.

T - Sweetish hops, malt backing, pear.

F - Dry, dry, dry. Very effervescent/lively (surprising because the head was not thick on the pour).

O - Folks looking for a hop bomb won't find it here. The sweetish hops dominate the flavor and are not in the least bit overpowering. I was left feeling like I wanted at least a little more forward flavoring somewhere in the profile of this one.

L- amber, slightly cloudy, short head, low carbonation
S- strong toasted malt. Grainy. Hay. Some caramel.
T- very malt forward. Toasted caramel malts lead into dried grass, and call me crazy but I'm getting coffee grounds somewhere in the middle. Why I am tasting coffee grounds in a Chitra IPA is beyond me. Finish is a bit flat due to the lack of a proper amount of hops.
O - An interesting beer because it is so malt forward, there are very nice malt aromas and flavor here. I do think it is uncharacteristic of the style, which is why I have trouble giving it a good score compared to other IPAs: this beer is just plain ale! Not a bad thing, just brand it accordingly please. Pick up this beer if you are in the mood for something malt forward: a fine winter beer. To retain its designation of an American IPA it's gonna need a lot more hops.

bottle to goblet.
Good citrusy ipa.
Tons of Lemon/ grapefruit on the nose.
Touch of ash in the finish that is outputting, but not a serious flaw.

One of the better Evil Genius Beers.

Poured into a custom shaped glass: color is hazy gold, head is brighter white with fine to small bubbles; head laces the glass sides.

Smell is malt forward but not dominated by it: malt is toast and caramel, maybe some amber malt like aromas; citrus hop flavor, some mixed rind and then more grapefruit like.

Taste seems to have less malt dominant flavors than the aroma leads with; hops seem to dominate with citrus forward and some more noticeable hoppy earthy flavors.

Mouthfeel seems to be where this brew drops off, moderate carbonation but a lingering dryness that is perceived as more water/mash or fermentation based than quality/amount of hops.

Overall a citra IPA that has some pleasant malt aromas.

Evil Genius Beer Company
Stacey's Mom Citra India Pale Ale
7.5% ABV. - 85 IBU's

Nose: Apricots, bread, grass, citrus, spice
Look: Orangish yellow, cloudy, off white head, a ton of lacing on glass.
Palate: Apricots, citrus, mild grapefruit, citra hops, slight pine, bitter dry grape fruity finish
moulth feel: medium body, alcohol is hidden well. The pineyness that resides in most IPA's, or APA's is not as strong here.
So, if you dislike the piney hops and want a beer that is more mellow in that regard, this one is a perfect fit.
Overall: I bought a 12 pack of this at my Duffy's beer distro. Some ladies from the Guinness company were there and they gave me a taste of a new beer and a Guinness glass that they engraved my name on. This was for free!!! I lucked out there. Anyways, there is no date on the box. Ughghhg, no date! Anyways, I had a guess that this was brewed unfiltered, or with some wheat malts because a. it is cloudy and b. the moulth and taste sort of point me in that direction. From what I have read that must not be the case. I am very surprised that they list this beer at 85 IBU's. That seems well over where this beer sits. I would rate it at maybe 50 maybe. Usually 85 is for extremely hoppy beers, or very bitter stouts.

Hazy, green-hued pale gold color. Modest head but it leaves ample spots on the glass.

Weedy, vegetation aroma. No noteworthy malt to detect to the nose.

Better, pale malt base on the initial sip. Still, this has a vegetal taste from the raw green hop. The body is predictable with a lower than expected carbonation. The swallow is all hop, leaving a long peppery aftertaste.

Straw to pale gold in color, clear, with some head and lacing.

Aroma is pine and citrus with malt.

Taste is similar to the smell with that citrus and hops up front followed by a fair amount of malt

Mouthful is medium and crisp with medium carbonation. Finish is dry.

This is an ipa that falls somewhere between the east and west coast styles where the hops and malt aren’t pronounced enough. Compared to others, it is ok.
