Evil Genius needs to figure out why almost all of their beers have a metallic after taste... Figure that out theyll have some solid brews.

Looks like an imperial stout. Smells a bit artificial. Tastes a bit artificial. Doesn't have the mouthfeel of an imperial stout. Not a bad seasonal grab, but not my first choice either.

12 oz can poured into a snifter. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma features dark roasted malt, earthy hops, cigarette smoke, and a hint of hazelnut. Flavor is similar and very heavy on the ash. Quite bitter and dry rather than sweet - not dessert-like at all. Not what I expected and not pleasant to drink, either.

12oz can poured into a teku. Came straight from a distributor warehouse with a 2/2/20 date code, so about 2.5 years old at time of consumption.
A: Pitch black with three solid fingers of bubbly brown head. Retention is superb. Thin sheets of lacing.
S: Tons of hazelnut forward on the nose, in that gas station coffee sort of way. Lots of roastiness underneath. Roasted barley, medium-roast coffee. Big wave of nibby and fudgey chocolate. Also lots of fruit skins and darkfruit in a grape skin, black berry, and black currant jam sort of way. Vinous alcohol.
T: Hazelnut and smoke up front. Roasty malt. Roasted barley. Day old coffee. Fatty and nibby cocoa and a chocolate sauce sort of impression. Berry-like fruit and red fruit skins. Grape. A good dose of papery oxidation. Quick but subtle brush of alcohol. Trailing roasty and smokey finish,
M: Full-bodied with a sense of heft. Nicely mouth-filling with a pleasant creamy and silky feel. Ample carbonation cuts through enough to lift a little.
O: The pronounced berry flavors and papery qualities are obvious hallmarks of the age of this beer. The overall drinking experience isn't *bad* because of this, but it also does distract from what I imagine the brewery intends the focal points to be: the hazelnut and chocolate married into a nice roasty stout. Using a little imagination to set aside the more aged aspects of this beer's smell and flavor profile, I can see this being a solid "desserty" imperial stout in a more straightforward and hedonistic way. As it stands, though, that is not the experience I had. The beverage as it exists in my hand now just tastes well past its prime with a lot of distracting oxidation. I'm not sure what Evil Genius' freshness parameters are for this beer, but personally I'd probably not want to drink it much outside of a year after canning.

I'll Have What She's Having has a medium, beige head, a very dark brown appearance, and splotchy lacing. The aroma is of hazelnut, chocolate, and dark malt. The flavor is similar, with sharp bitterness. This stout has a medium body, a velvety mouthfeel, and a mostly-dry finish.

Evil Genius has never been shy about adding outside flavors to their brews. Sometimes it works. Two 12 oz. bottles have been emptied into a clear glass liter mug. The color is the almost black dark brown expected from a good stout. There's a little tan head and glass lacing. A nice aroma of chocolate pervades and something sweet behind it is also picked up. The taste runs a little sweeter than the best additionally flavored stouts, likely because of the hazelnut and high ABV. More like a desert stout than an Imperial, it's not bad, despite that extra sweetness. Neither is it a one trick novelty. There is a decent malt body from start to finish. At the conclusion, there's enough hoppiness, alcohol and bitterness from the roasted malts to overcome the initial sweetness. The mentioned alcohol is very subtle for the amount this delivered. This one absolutely works.

I really like this in place of a dessert or a treat, it doesn't have the body of a great stout but the chocolate and hazelnut are pronounced without being too sweet. The aroma is faint. Pours an opaque dark brown with a thin head.

Not really sold on this one. The one thing I will say is that for a 9.4 ABV, this is not boozy at all. It just seems like an overly manufactured beer with hazelnut flavoring added. Too much nuttiness, the chocolate flavors are balanced although a bit more bittering chocolate than sweeter or milk chocolate. I can't get beyond the manufactured taste of this one. It gets a bit better as it settles in, but I'm not going back to this one.

Pours dark brown with minimal head. Not a creamy stout, more of a thin mouthfeel. Definite chocolate flavor with significant nuttiness. However, a somewhat sour aftertaste creeps in as well as an unbalanced alcohol presence. These both undermine the enjoyment of this beer, relegating it to just okay status.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass.
L---Dark brown beer with a lighter brown head. Head has good retention and leaves excellent lacing.
S---Sweet, Nutella aroma. Chocolate & hazelnut are both there as advertised.
T---Very chocolatey. Nutty as well. Taste follows the nose pretty closely.
F---Thick & rich. Full mouthfeel.
O---I think BA underrates this beer. This is much better than a 3.99. I've been suckered in by a bunch of Evil Genius beers that had a cool name, but that just weren't good. This is probably the best Evil Genius beer I've had.

Solid black, medium light carbonation. An above average body with a slight slick creamy feel.
Aroma is alcohol and raw hazelnut way upfront. There's milk chocolate with a little black coffee as well as some roasted malt.
Taste is hazelnut and milk chocolate followed by some alcohol. some black coffee, roasted malt as well as some hop bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste.
The hazelnut might be too much for some but this beer delivers all the flavors advertised. Would look for this again.

had this on tap at yard house in king of prussia, PA. exactly as advertised, an imperial stout with very noticeable hazelnut in the smell and taste. pours a beautiful very dark brown nearly black (although the lighting at yard house is very low). wish this was more than just a limited release would love to get a six of it for my fridge

Pours a dark brown color with a small layer of beige head. The nose has notes of sweet chocolate. The flavor is sweet without a doubt but its not really chocolatey. Rather, the flavor is a bit artificial with an unpleasant aftertaste.
