Pours a dark brown color. The head is two fingers high and khaki in shade. Retention is quite good, and a consistent sheet of lacing sticks to the glass.

How 'bout them apples, the aroma is just like Nutella. Hey, I like Nutella, and this brings nice quotients of chocolate, hazelnuts, and more general nuts. But here's the thing - as soon as it opens up, it becomes almost ridiculously chemical-smelling. There is a touch of piny hoppiness to break things up (and perhaps, save it from being overtly sugary), but I can't get over the artificial qualities coming through. Normally, beers like this (see: DuClaw Sweet Baby Jesus) smell great but taste chemical and meh. This doesn't even waste any time tricking those senses: the aroma screams "ARTIFICIAL".

Hrm, this is odd. This actually tastes a bit less chemical than the nose suggested. Still, beneath the healthy brown sugar, caramel, and dark chocolate sweetness that opens this up, there is an artificial twinge to this that I could do without. Did I say twinge? Did I say a bit less chemical? I lied. This is smacking me with notes of hairspray and potpourri on the finish. It's both too sweet and too lacking in natural qualities - ergo, I don't like it one bit.

This feels insanely sweet and coating - not in a good way, either. It just coats the tongue with an artificial (there's the word again), candy-like sweetness. Carbonation isn't very noticeable, thanks to how slimy it is.

I most certainly will NOT have what Sally is having, thank you very much. Next!

2.12/5: If nothing else, it makes DuClaw's chocolate peanut butter silliness look like Rochefort 10

Good beer. Milk chocolate nose and a smidge darker taste. Hazelnut flavor is present. Beer is rich and relatively thick.

Pours a deep brown, minimal off white foam. Smells strongly of hazelnut, hint of cocoa, vanilla. Tastes sweet malts forward, hints of hazelnut, cocoa, vanilla - sweet notes dominate. Mouthfeel is very thin for a stout - minimal effervescence and a bit cloying with its off balanced sweetness.
Overall, a very good desert beer - a bit of a novelty - I would have a lot of trouble drinking more than one - pleasant, I wish it had more stout qualities - the texture in particular seemed too thin.

L - Black pour with a deep tan head most of which dissipated fairly quickly leaving about a millimeter of foam as I am drinking it.

S - Vanilla , cacao nibs & a touch of hazelnut on the nose. Quite pleasant but a bit sweet.

T - Strong hazelnut on the tongue but also has that chocolate & vanilla from the nose. A bit of biter dark chocolate at the end but no hoppy bitterness.

F - Such a smooth mouthfeel. Virtually no noticeable alcohol considering this is a 9.4% ABV beer. Creamy but a bit thin for an Imperial Stout. If this was a different style of beer I would rate it higher for mouthfeel.

A: [4.50] Nice black pour with about 1/2 a finger of tan head. Looks a bit like a dessert in the glass. The bottle lists the ABV (9.4%) and the born on date (12/22/15). As an aside I will say that I really like the name. And I really like the Evil Genius logo - it is clever.

S: [4.25] Dark chocolate and vanilla (continuing the dessert theme).

T: [4.75] Wow I get a lot of the hazelnut and it was not on the nose. It is nutty and flavorful and takes the front seat on the flavor. After the hazelnut I am getting the nice vanilla notes. I get some bitter chocolate late.

M: [4.25] Smooth and creamy with no hint of the 9.4% alcohol. There is some mild bitterness on the end that is from hops or a bitter chocolate flavor. Overall really nice body.

O: [4.50] This is a great beer. The flavors are rich and robust. The hazelnut and vanilla flavors really shine through. It tastes fantastic and the body is smooth and nice to drink. This is my first Evil Genius beer but hopefully not my last!

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a snifter.

Pours a big black body, slightly translucent on the pour but once it's in the glass it's dark inky and opaque.

Aromas are heavy milk chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, butterscotch. The tongue matches the nose with lots of chocolate, tootsie rolls, heavy hazelnut, some soy, finishes with dark chocolate. I have to say the aroma and taste are slightly artificial. For 9.4% the alcohol is hidden but the body is a little watery with low carbonation.

Pretty good, natural flavors are a little forced and artificial though, and that's not something I'm a big fan of.

A little on the sweet side.
All flavors named are accounted for.
Doesn't drink too heavy.

Wonderful chocolate and hazelnut flavors with just enough bitterness to balance, smooth creamy mouthfeel, and zero alcohol noticeable. Just a terrific all around beer.
