Evil Genius Beer Company "Fly Like An Eagle"
16 oz. can, coded "GO BIRDS ! ! 02/02/18..." and sampled on 02/04/18

Notes via stream of consciousness: The can states that this is a cherry water ice inspired New-England style IPA brewed with lactose, Madagascar vanilla beans, sweet and tart cherry puree, and Calypso, Columbus, Cascade, and Citrus hops. It pours a cloudy pinkish color beneath a short head of bright white that fades readily. It looks a bit like a glass of pink grapefruit juice. The aroma is clearly hoppy, and resinous or "dank", and I think there is a light touch of cherry in there as well. It's not the brightest or boldest hop aroma I've found on a NEIPA but no one will fail to notice it. Let's check out the flavor... quite similar. It's grapefruity, citrus-rind-like, resinous, and lightly piney - but there's also a light note of cherry there as well. And I think that the cherry might have given it a slight tartness, very slight, but enough to help to balance it. I'm not sure where the bitterness level is, at least 40 and probably more like 65 or 70 , but it lingers in the finish along with a lot of hop resins. Only a touch of cherry makes it through in the end, although I guess that makes sense as there's not really that much earlier on anyway. The vanilla isn't particularly noticeable but I'm sure it's adding support to the whole. The lactose lends it some body, and I'd call it light-medium, and the carbonation gives it a gentle bristle on the tongue. It's interesting. It's unique. I like the cherry addition. But it's not a girly beer, and not a fruit beer, it remains a solidly hoppy and bitter NEIPA. Worth trying.
