Poured on-tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a deep, dark, toffee coloring, with a low profile, off-white head. Nose of roasted nut sweetness, rich toffee, burnt caramel, and earthy undertones. Flavors are rich and roasted forward, heavy on roasted caramel and toffee, with a burnt sugary backbone. Nutty highlights, with some cream sweet highlights, too. Rich and sweet. The body is slick and creamy, with a toasted and sugary aftertaste. Smooth, slick, lingering finish. Different take on a red, and pretty damn tasty.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass pours a dark reddish brown with lacing that's last throughout the drinking experience

Normally beers like this are harsh and bitter this one has a Carmel malty flavor with a smooth finish. This is a highly drinkable beer! I recommend it to anyone

Pours a deep ruddy color with a thick beige head that has moderate retention and leave small amounts of tight sticky lacing. The aroma is milder but has a nice malty sweetness like dark fruit and bread. The taste is much the same with just a little earthy hops on the finish. The body is mostly smooth but has a steady tingle of carbonation.

From notes on 05/13/12:
Growler straight from the nanobrewery; Poured in a pint glass.

A - 1-1/2 inches of off-white creamy head that has decent retention; Brownish amber in color with a pretty hazy appearance; Decent showing of lacing around the glass

S - Not too strong of an aroma here; Toasty and rich, sweet caramel notes step forward with wet, leafy/earthy and herbal hops; A bit of syrupy sweetness with subtle raspberry-like fruits come across as well

T - Nice flavor here that the smell did not prepare me for; Rich, malty, earthy, and woodsy taste accompanied by some nutty and subtle chocolate qualities; Pretty toasty, biscuity, and lightly smoky as well; Certainly a malt dominated taste, though the earthy/leafy hops do manage to come through a bit

M - Moderate carbonation; A bit above medium bodied; Fairly creamy and smooth behind the carbonation; Finishes just a bit on the dry side

O - I thought this was a very flavorful Irish Red that, while not set up by the aroma as well as I had hoped, displayed quite a few different, but harmonious components. This brew is quite drinkable and probably my favorite of the three offerings I've tried from Midnight Brewery. I'll be sure to grab another growler of this the next chance I get.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle although I have had many, over the last two years, at the brewery and as growler fills. A malty Irish Red, toasty, with a subtle sweetness. Probably my favorite offered by the brewery and one of my overall favorites brewed by Virginia craft breweries.
