.5l green glass bottle at a restaurant.

Looks good. Clear golden body and a white head with some retention and stick.
Oh ya there's a touch of skunk going on upon first whiff but I was expecting worse. Pilsner malt. Grassy hop flavor with a slight bittering.
Light and supremely bubbly on the tongue. Washes away clean.
Pair with delicious Albanian food and good company and this goes down easy.

I got this beer only because it is the only entry from Albania on the global list "1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die"
That was my only incentive.
Enough said.

Average....what can I say. I had quite a few of these while in Tirana, as it seemed to be the main beer. It is drinkable, but you wont get much out of it. You dont have the variety in the region, all the beers taste more or less the same. I would not order this beer if I was at a bar with a decent selection, unless you needed something cold with just standard beer flavor. Overall, not bad but not good.

Thanks Radek. Neutral aroma. very yellow body, with some dissipitating head. Average mouthfeel. Not much taste, but drinkable.Fairly fresh from Radek's buddy in Albania, so no complaints about skunking, but taste just above cardboard.Passable malting to get it down.

Birra Tirana: my first and only beer from Albania (part of my long delayed trip around the world). This is without a doubt the single most skunked smelling beer I have ever had the misfortune of smelling. I could smell this from three feet away, and it was painful. As for the rest, it had a big white head that disappeared very quickly, leaving a thin cover. Have I mentioned the skunk aroma? The taste is not nearly as skunked as the aroma, and actually it does not taste that bad, kind of clean and a little malty. I should probably say something about the skunk aroma, shouldn’t I? Light bodied. Before I forget, have I mentioned the skunk aroma?

Found in Eagle Provisions, Brooklyn. Albania is a new country for beer for me.

Bottle was date stamped '28 02 03', so either just over a year old or just over a year old out of date. Hazy pale gold with an off-white head; the green bottle had quite a bit of sediment in it so I had to be careful pouring. Quite highly carbonated. Aroma is strong, earthy, malty. Taste is mildly bitter with initial fruity notes, some hops in there are offset by a sweet maltiness that comes through at the start but fades fast. Bitter finish.

Not bad...

Wow. A cool co-worker gave me a gift certificate to the Total Wine and More over in Cary and I find the last Albanian beer in the store. I like the slogan on the label: International Award for Excellence and Business Prestige. What that means I have not a clue. Pours a basic medium gold with a bubbly soap suds looking head that laces nicely for a lager. The nose is grainy, slightly skunky, and nothing special.

Not as bad as I feared. A bit of late hops gives this some actual flavor and relevance. The mouthfeel is somewhat creamier than you'd expect for a basic lager. Drinkable, but a bit strange. Still, for an Albanian lagger off the back of the shelf, it's drinkable.

Shared 500 ml can, thanks to Holmen1. ABV is 4%. Pale golden colour, moderate white head. Industrial boring aroma, grain and dust. Bland flavour, grainy with a little fruit.

This beer is not bad, but was too sweet for my taste. It was fine to drink, but I felt like I couldn't have more than two. Not much choice with Albanian beers. However, I do recommend going to Tirane, Albania. Cool place and hot women wearing skimpy clothes! Awesome time!

Pours a two-fingered white head that goes quickly and leaves some lace. Slightly cloudy amber color. Hoppy skunky nose. Light-medium bodied and carbonation. Starts hoppy, skunkiness just barely present, finishes hoppy with a lingering bitter after taste. I didn't expect much - how many beers do we see from Albania? This is my first. Green, 500ml bottle - $1.70. Save your money.

Pale yellow with a short-lived head.

Smell borders on euro-skunk, but has a little sweetness to it.

I was worried the skunk was going to come forward in the taste, but it didn't really. A pilsener taste to it, with a sweetish finish at the end. Not really my thing, but not objectionable.

Mouthfeel okay.

Nothing I'll be craving anytime soon, but it was drinkable.

Pours a clear golden color with an average white head that soon settles down - exactly what you expect of these beers.
The aroma is relatively weak, just some malty aroma complemented by some grains.
The taste follows the nose. Sweet beginning, followed by a grainy body (sweet) and just a slightly bitter finish.
Easily drinkable when ice cold. But not much to the taste really.

Poured a hazy golden color with modest white puffy head.
Smell is light with a faint sweetness present.
Taste is also sweet with a nice balancing dryness.
Finishes with a moderate bitterness, which really rescues this beer.
Not a bad beer, but nothing special.

Surprising effort from an unknown land. Refreshing spring water pilsener taste with a hint of belgian yeast/malt. Doesn't quite have the hop finish of a Pilsener Urquell, and is very drinkable. This beer is worthy of a blind taste test against any other European pilsener.

The beer pours a rich, medium gold, a shade darker than your average european pils/lager. A copious white froth erupts on the pour, decanted into a pilsner flute. My judgement was off, and the head proceeded to overflow the glass. Great head retention and stability, holding an even layer over the beer all the way through. Excellent clarity, tiny bubbles floating to the surface at a steady pace. Not a whole lot of lacing, just a couple scattered splotches here and there.
The aroma is pretty solid, as well. Crisp, grainy pils malt, with a touch of corn-like sweetness. A touch husky. The label declares that they use belgian malt. Seems like belgian pils malt is pretty nice. A definite german hop character. Fairly hoppy, with a floral, slightly soapy, snappy bite. Everything is in order, but it feels just a bit wishy-washy, not quite commanding the attention as some other beers in this style.
The flavor starts with a very clean, rather grainy pils maltiness. That white bread flavor, with a touch of grass and something similar to ?mushrooms? It's pleasant, and I've encountered it in other euro lagers before, just never quite placed it. The hops break through quickly, entirely floral, with a bit of soapy, detergent-like astringency and the barest trace of skunkiness. Just a slight chemical soapy hop astringency in the aftertaste. Rather light bodied, a bit moreso than usual, with a slightly minerally hard water taste lingering on the back of the tongue. Pleasant enough carbonation. Active and bouyant, adding a clean snap to the dry finish. Good stuff.
A pretty solid euro lager all the way from Albania. Very clean, no off flavors that I could detect. I could stand for a touch more "oomph", but that's my only complaint. Luckily I pulled this out of the back of a shelf, so no skunkiness, but beware bottles sitting in direct light. I sampled this in a 12oz bottle with a freshness date on the back of 09/11/04. Nothing I'd seek out again, especially at almost $2 a bottle, when I could get the same thing out of any other pale european lager. Nice to try something from Albania, though. I'm not even really sure where Albania is...southeastern europe? Somewhere near Greece?

On tap at various cafes in Tirana, Albania. Very little other beers were being offered, except for maybe Heineken, which is considered ultra-elite over there. Fizzy light gold, high carbonation. Flavor is some corn, other vegetables, water. Light and not much in the way of hops. Kind of a typically boring light lager without any positive interactions between malt and hop.

500 mL (24.9 oz) green bottle, capped, date on front of label. Purchased at Andover Liquors.

This pilsner poured a clear, golden color with pillowy white foam that persisted and clung to the glass. There was a continuous fine bubbling. The smell was malty and biscuity. There was a mild sulfurous smell typical of many European lagers, but this was not skunked. The taste was biscuity malt and floral hops with bitter hops appearing in the finish. Overall a pilsner on the sweet side. The mouthfeel was hoppy with medium body and moderate carbonation. This was a not bad pilsner. Albania is not oh-so-far from Czechoslovakia afterall.
