Im in the camp who calls Professor a favorite IPA. Here's the kicker -- I generally dislike IPA! So many call Professor "the worse" so why do I like this so much? Anyone I offer this to also calls it too hoppy. OK, love it hate it whatever. I stopped in the Big Rapids brewery on 5/6/17 and ordered the usual Professor. Excellent! Tap version seems so much better than the bottled! But wait, thats not the whole story! Come to find out, there is a new Braumeister at Crankers in late 2016 and the Professor has been revised! Much of the spicey bite has been smoothed out and I think I may be able to offer this to friends again. I suggest advocates give the revised Professor another taste in 2017.

Pours hazy light reddish brown. Tall, thick, white, lasting head fades to a foam mountain in middle of glass.
Smells of pine, citrus, light malts, apple.
Tastes citrus, light apple. Then light bready malt and pine. Well balanced. Dry finish with a pine linger. Lighter medium body and creamy medium carbonation

This is the second-worst beer I've ever had (after Black Dragon Madera's Dragon Drool). Purchased a bottle at restaurant in the Traverse City area on 8/23/16. IPAs are the only beer I enjoy, and I've never had a loser, until now. This wasn't a matter of the beer having too little or too much of something. Rather, this beer tasted as if the batch from which it was bottled was bad. Which means either that was indeed the case, or the brewery succeeded in formulating a beer which tastes as if they created a bad batch. If someone likes IPAs, stay away from Professor IPA. If someone likes any other style of beer - dark, Pilsner, Belgian, etc - stay away from Professor IPA.

Bought a bottle of this on a whim. Overall nice balanced beer not too harsh not too light. Smells of malt, citrus, and hops. The taste goes along with the nose. Malt, citrus, and hops. It's also a little spicy on the finish. It's pretty easy going down as well. Overall a nice pleasant non-overpowering beer.
