650ml bottle. Powell River's meta hometown brew, it would seem.
This beer pours a dark, clear red-tinted cola hue, with one fat finger of broadly foamy, bubbly beige head, which leaves some random specked lace around the glass as it quickly wafts off.
It smells of sweet, dense caramel/toffee malt, with strong molasses leanings, dry baker's chocolate, a thin, fleshy black fruitiness, and an earthy, leafy hoppiness. The taste is crisp, somewhat biscuity saltwater taffy, toasted dark cocoa, fairly innocuous bitter coffee, a wee sour milk character, a subtle oily nuttiness, and tame earthy, weedy hops.
The carbonation is reserved, but somewhat fuzzily metallic at times, the body on the low side medium weight, with a weird hollow feel to it, though I suppose it is perfunctorily smooth. It finishes off-dry, the sharp biscuit and metallic nature rearing up in the face of a lingering molasses and chocolate malt.
A so-so porter - underwhelming in its American hop qualifications, and too thin and lactation-lacking on the English side. So Canadian it is, eh? That's not fair - tasty porters of both stripes are made throughout this land - a few tweaks and this might soon be one of them.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 28/5/13
A clear ruby liquid with a short lived finger of tan foam that quickly falls to a thin film and leaves some random lace
S milk chocolate, raisins and plums, with a little molasses and licorice, fairly straightforward but decent
T a little nutty with some cold coffee I didn't smell, not quite as nice as the nose as its just missing a little something
M a little thin and could use a few extra bubbles and has a fairly faint aftertaste of sour plum and coco
O nothing special in this fairly light porter, smell had potential but didn't really follow through in other areas, easy enough to drink but needs some intensity
pretty simple porter but nothing to be ashamed of either, that being said its nothing worth seeking out either

Poured from a 650ml bottle. Pours a rich reddish brown colour. The nose on this beer is very subtle with hints of chocolate an vanilla coming through. The porter flavours really come through on the palate though, with nice robust notes of chocolate, smoke an dark fruits. This is an easy-drinking porter that hits all the right notes.

A: dark brown almost opaque
S: nice bakers chocolate, dark roast coffee, grapefruit rind
T: starts nice and then builds to a long slightly bitter finish. Clean, direct. Tastes young and lean.
M: medium bodied.
O: Not a session porter but rather one with a nice line of bitterness and "good bones". Enjoyable with rich smoky foods.

As Fall arrives this beer should find its way into more peoples glasses. A dryish take on the porter with a solid complex nose and flavour. I liked the mouthfeel which was full yet with the dry finish it never grows cloying. Pow Town is a welcome addition to the list of great BC porters. Townsite impresses with its quality of beer and hopefully we see more seasonal offerings in the future.

Review from 5/23/2012
Appearance. Pours a lighter cola brown with two fingers of creamy light tan head that leaves some decent lacing.
Smell. Dark coffee, milk chocolate and roasty malts.
Taste. Big roasty, chocolaty malts, dark roasty coffee, a little nice bitterness. Pretty big flavours and very tasty.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with medium carbonation.
Overall. Wow! What a great porter from this new brewery. I’ll look forward to trying more of their beers!
