500 mL bottle re-branded as "1864 Blueberry Ale" for the purposes of their Fathers of Confederation sampler; bottled March 20 2014 and picked up at the LCBO. Served well-chilled.

Pours a muddy yellowish-blonde colour, topped with over one finger's worth of soapy white froth that slowly recedes over the ensuing minutes. Beautiful lace, with a messy cap and collar eventually left behind. If nothing else, this is an attractive fruit beer. The aroma reminds me of a freshly-baked blueberry muffin; slightly tart, with some bready malt and honey sweetness.

A little disappointing, to be honest. Pale, grainy malts accompany a prominent blueberry extract flavour, with some orange citrus and a somewhat floral, fruity finish. A touch of lingering tannic astringency in the aftertaste that does not linger. This is a light-bodied ale, with assertive carbonation that provides a proper bite for a light fruit beer. Refreshing/quaffable enough, I suppose, but I can't imagine wanting more than one glass of this.

Final Grade: 3.37, a passable B-. 1864 Blueberry Ale is a decent fruit beer that makes for a serviceable inclusion in this sampler pack. As someone who isn't particularly big on fruit beers in the first place, it shouldn't be surprising when I state that this is not a beer I plan to return to any time soon. Reminds me a little of Pump House's blueberry beer, in that it tastes like blueberry and doesn't really do much for me - although this one seems marginally more appealing, IMO.

500 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. Purchased for about $3.75 CDN.

Appearance - hazy golden color. One finger or so of head and clearly unfiltered as some sediment rests in the glass. Above average head retention.

Smell - blueberries and floral notes dominate, but the smell itself isn't terribly potent.

Taste - some blueberry, honey and little else. Mild flavours throughout. Expecting a bit more intensity in the flavor here.

Mouthfeel - smooth with a light body and medium carbonation.

Overall - a decent fruit beer, certainly worthy of being in a tasters pack, however the fruit flavor is just a bit more subdued here than would normally be enjoyable.

On tap at Swiss Chalet. Unfiltered golden colour with nice head. Hint of blueberries on the nose rather than taste. Smooth flavoured wheat beer.

This one's got about a finger of head. It's a very cloudy, yellow brew with a reddish-blue hue from the berries.

It's got a wheaty smell with subtle blueberries... almost something leathery in there.

It's def. got blueberries in the flavour, without being too strong or sweet. It's OK. It builds to borderline bubblegum flavours by the end - ALMOST something artificial, but not quite. It's a good thing the brewer really held back by adding less blueberry than suggested.

The feel's light, smooth, with carb being on the lower end.

It's an OK brew. I probably won't have it again, though.

Got this one three time in the last two week.

A real nice beer with a nice touch of blueberry. You can feel the blueberry out of this one.

You can definately smell the blueberry out of this one.

I recommend this one once in a while. It is different and nice to drink.
