A group of five us stopped by last week to take the brewery tour and I'm glad we did.

The bar area is located inside a large warehouse where they have their new shiny production facility. It's in a fenced off corner of the brewery, with all the good stuff visible to your eye, including a couple nice racks of barrels with goodies aging in them.

The bar is beautiful and seems to go on forever. They can really throw a nice party here. They had about 12-15 beers on tap, with a bit of everything. They brew so close to style, I really like it. They don't do much off the wall stuff (not yet at least), but with the production facility in full go now, I'm sure the brewpub will start to experiment a bit more.

We went on the brewery tour and it was short and sweet. They have a beautiful facility, and I would definitely recommend not only checking out the bar, but going on the tour.

Massive space, but a cool atmosphere with the barrels and huge-wall-covering American flag. Compared to the brewpub, the taplist has always been superior. Service though is a bit more rushed and not as friendly. Still a great place to stop and comes highly recommended.

Visited last winter with a meeting of the Illinois Chapter of the Congress for a New Urbanism. (Full disclosure: I'm on their Board.)
The theory that I've seen confirmed increasingly since this visit by various writers/bloggers is that one of the key ingredients of healthy urbanism is brewpubs and breweries; hence, our meeting here of an unusually high attendance of over 30.

After a long social hour and sampling various renditions of the stellar Eugene and other brews they do not can often (if at all), we had a tour of the facility by an animated employee who obviously loved his job. Interesting. He talked not only about Revolution, but its competition... most of whom are upstarts. Will the cycle be unbroken?

Of course, I rode my bike home (4 miles) on a cold winter night.
But I was a happy man. I proved two key theories in one evening: brewing makes urban life better; and dark beers make winter more tolerable.

I just may do all this again... so the taps can be counted and I get a photo for every brew I taste.
Or, perhaps you do that... as this is taproom and tour is not to be missed.

This place is really great. The atmosphere is great and has that lively tavern feel. Bourbon Barrels on rack line the room with long tables, great music and a really big selection of beers on tap. The bartenders are friendly and answered all my questions I had. The merchandise they had available was laid out in a very neat fashion. There were three giant chalk boards, one listing all the merchandise available, one listing all the carry-out beer that was currently available and the final listing all the beer available on tap. The best part is that, any bartender behind the bar will sell you the merchandise, carry-out or on tap beer. The tours are free which is great, but are also first come first serve. I arrived at 3 and got in on the very last tour at 5 I believe it was. Just make sure you show up early, then sit down and have a few beers while you wait! When the tour begins, everyone is given another beer (part of the free tour) and the tour guide walks you around the entire place. Our guide spoke clearly and was very knowledgeable and explained everything in detail. Once the tour concluded I went up to the nearest bartender and asked for a Willie Wee Heavy on tap, a six pack of Anti-Hero IPA and a t-shirt, and I got it all on one single receipt. Really awesome place worth checking out if you're in the area!
