Served in a flared pokal at the brewpub.

Nothin' like sushi night at a non-sushi restaurant with a black rye IPA... Anyway, this stuff pours a deep black-brown topped by a finger of dirty khaki foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, blackened pretzel, mixed greens, grass, and mild grapefruit zest. The taste brings in more of the same, with the hops taking center stage and the bitter roast slinking to more of a supportive (and pervasive) role. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a pretty nice black IPA, one that doesn't really seem to showcase much rye character, but one that ends up being tasty and going well with the volcano roll.
