A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2014. Acquired recently from the Beeritz warehouse. Described on the label as a lightly spiced Christmas ale. It's that time of year....

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A dark coppery-amber hue with good clarity and low carbonation. Forms a small, off-white head of foam that lasts for barely a minute before dissipating. Aroma of dried fruit, raisins, cloves, mild cinnamon, faint ginger, a twinge of roasted malt, ale yeast and stewed leaves. Overall nothing stands out - too many diluted ingredients.

Tastes of dark malt with a mildly spicy character and a dry, herbal finish. Notes of slightly fruity malt, cinnamon, clove, faint ginger, dried fruit, a hint of roasted grain, ale yeast and stewed leaves. Possesses a subtle sweetness and a moderately harsh herbal dryness in the background, followed by a restrained bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and decent body. Perhaps a tad watery for the style. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of mild spice, fruity malt and stewed leaves/herbs.

A fairly average Christmas ale. Looks a bit dull, while the aroma and flavour have a range of subtle spice and dark malt notes. Body is OKish, but a shade too thin. Reasonably balanced but unremarkable. No need to seek it out.

Spicy & quite nutty with a pinch of cinnamon and dark fruits, there is also some caramel but not a lot. I detected some darker malts and some sugar too. The aroma is a pleasant one but at the same time it is nothing overly special but it is definitely a Christmas smelling beer.
