Appearance - fairly standard light golden color. Much more carbonation than the other Kirins. Half-finger of seltzery white head that quickly bubbles away.

Aroma is very lightly skunked, but clears out after a moment. Fairly pils-like, but light.

Taste - not too bad. Some malty, pilsnerish notes coming through, very bubbly, watered down to about what I'd expect. Not bad for a light, but I wouldn't pay the extra import price for it.

Mouthfeel - crisp, very carbonated with a trace of malt left behind, just slightly sweet.

Drinkability - for hot weather, sure. I think I'd choose a cheaper alternative, but it'll drink.

Picked up at a company friday event. Worth an extra label in my label books, and another review:

Poured into 12-oz tumbler, this extremely pale-gold beer has a fast-forming and fast-dissipating head. The aroma is pretty clean and neutral, with a light pils maltiness. Very clean flavor. Much better than many light beers. The malt is not particularly grainy, though there's not much taste at all. Hop bitterness is quite light, though it is detectable if you look for it.

I haven't had a lot of light macros, but this one is definitely better than the average run-of-the-mill light. It's quite clean, and non-offensive.

Look: Yellow and totally see through 1/4 inch white head and no retention

Smell: Um there isnt one

Taste: Hint of 6 row malt and that's it WOW

Mouthfeel: Thin with medium carbonation

Overall: Very drinkable beer but why would you pay money for a beer with no flavor. Only drank this one because I needed the cap for my bar top

Crystal-clear and straw colored with a head that resembles dishwashing soap lather and suffers poor retention. Moderately carbonated with poor lace. Slightly skunky with a slightly sweet grain aroma, more like corn, actually, and a little spicy hops. Taste begins with slightly sweet maltiness and slightly biting carbonation, the taste just fades to a bit of spicy hop bitterness at the finish. The finish is crisp and dry.

In defense of this beer I must say that it is better than many American lights, although that may not be saying much. Still, if one must drink a light beer, this may be one of the better ones. The label copy notes "only 95 calories", so its clear that the caloric content is of more importance to the target audience than the taste.

Went out to dinner on Friday with my wife to a nice sushi place in Roslindale. After looking at the beer menu, went with Kirin Light mainly because I've never had one before. Poured into a pils style glass. Extremely pale body; barely yellow at all. Lots of carbonation but no head. Looks like sparkling water. Smells like rice. Tastes way too watered down to have any real flavor. Body was paper thin and merely just liquid. There is absolutely nothing behind this beer. When they say "light", they mean they removed everything. I think a Coors would taste better. I'd never order a Japanese light beer again after this poor showing.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. This beer literally looks like a glass of water with sudsy white head. The smell is slightly more aromatic than tap water. It did go pretty well with my cigar (due to the lack of flavor).

Kirin Light Beer pours a light golden yellow with a thick white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. The aroma is grainy. The taste is also grainy, with a touch of corn flavor jumping out at me. There's nothing offensive here, but really not much going on either. A decent choice if you want a light lager.

A - Pale, and I mean pale yellow...nearly colorless actually. A small wispy white haze is all that's on top of this beer, and no lacing is to be found.

S - Not much to smell really. A little bit of rice, a little bit of a sour, almost lactic note is there too.

T - Oh God, that's not really very good. I recall enjoying the normal Kirin Ichiban with some sushi, but this falls far short of that respectable brew. There isn't any flavor to be found apart from a mild sourness that reminds me of spoiled milk.

M - Super-thin, super-carbonated, and super-weak.

D - Pretty bad. This is a far cry from the "real" Kirin Ichiban...if you are trying to save calories, eat a little less rice beneath your sashimi and stick with the real stuff.

They are now importing this beverage into the "beer wasteland" of Oklahoma convenience stores. I don't know if it required watering down or not...probably not, judging from the touted 95 calories and the other reviewers comments. Regardless, here goes:
Pours to large soapy bubbles that dissapear. Color is water and light straw. Aroma is carbonated water, malt, adjunct grains and a weak dose of pungent hops. Taste is mostly carbonated water with a splash of malt, cereal and hops. Bitter finish that sours and turns into a metallic, stomach-acid aftertaste. Probably better suited for pairing with food to mask the aftertaste.

L: Pours a golden yellow color that is completely see-through and has a short and thin white colored head that leaves little lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Smells of rice and that tingly alcohol smell you get from sake.
T: Tastes like water mainly with hints of rice flavoring.
M: Very smooth, very watery, good amount of carbonation.
D: Very drinkable, it was like fizzy water with a bit of rice.

Like most of the Oriental beers I've had, this poured a very pale yellow, with little head or lacing, a touch of carbonation, a grainy aroma and taste and a short dry finish. All that said, it was okay when paired with a Spicy Seafood Noodle soup, but I could have done much better. At least it wasn't fattening.

Pours a clear gold with a quarter inch cream colored head. Dissipates quickly. No lacing at all. Smells of sweet corny malt.

Taste is really bad. Sour and unpleasant. Mineral watery in character and lightly vegetal. Mouth is watery. No crispness. Limp, yet fizzy. Blick. This is foul. Run, don't walk.

Sneaked a 12 oz. bottle at Beard's 40th birthday party. Not much too this beer...very light tasting lager with hardly any flavor. Nothing to object to, but nothing to like either.

Got this with 4 other Asian beers (plus 1 Budweiser to make a 6 pack) from the Japanese restaurant I work at.

Appearance: Unimpressive- very very pale gold color with a smaller head that leaves very quickly and leaves a tiny bit of lace. The lace is a slight plus, I guess.

Smell: An extremely faint smell, but smells of grain and corn.

Taste: Almost no flavor to be found, but has just a hint of sweetness and adjunct (rice, maybe some corn).

Mouthfeel: Very watery. Hey, at least it's refreshing.

Drinkability: I could drink these things all day, but that's only because they're so thin and tasteless. Wouldn't go out and buy this ever again (not even at a restaurant), but would drink it only if it were a hot day and some cold ones were around. Seriously, this beer isn't even worth a try.

The closest beer I recall that tastes almost exactly like water. Although this may increase its drinkability score, no other positive qualities could be found. Appeared almost like water with a few squeezes of lemon. No head or carbonation. First time I have had a Japanese beer and I hope this will not deter me from trying a few others.

When I took my first taste of this brew, I knew instantly that I was not going to like this one. It poured a small white creamy head with small bubbles. There was fair lacing with this brew. The body was straw yellow in hue. It had a mild malt aroma and it was bitter tasting from start to finish. This brew was light and watery tasting.

Ok, well, Raul sat down to sushi and the waitress just put a Kirin Light in front of him without asking. Ok. Hmm...

Like my last relationship, this thang is transparent. Like, I can see right through it and see all the bullshit. Taste? Smell? Where?

Goes down easy, but so do a lot of things.

Bottled 18Jan11. 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - No head. Small white lace. Clear pale gold body.

Smell - Slight, hidden banana. Not much else.

Taste - Mostly flavorless except for some sligh corn and stale metallic off flavors.

Mouthfeel - Boring. No effervescence. Sickly acidic.

Overall Drinkability - Disappointing. Will try re-rating with a fresher bottle, but not sure it will help.

Well I had the Kirin so lets see if the light is as good.

Wow this is pale yellow, or moderatly hydrated man piss. White head that leaves no lace. Smells of boiled rice and taste of almost nothing. My mouth thinks I am drinking soda water, at least I can drink it quickly.

Appearance - Pours an absoutely crystal clear straw color with a tight, white head. The head has no retention, leaves no lacing, but the body continues to effervess for quite some time.

Aroma - A corny, sour-mash up front, with a hint of malt sweetness and bittering hops in the background. Aroma of cooked corn to. About what you would expect from an American macro-lager.

Taste - Not much taste at all. Very crisp and refreshing, but so light, there is very little taste. This would be a decent lawn-mower beer, but that's it.

Mouthfeel - Light body. Very crisp and clean. CO2 level is just about perfect for the style.

Drinkability- With the canned corn aroma and severe lack of taste, it's not the most drinkable stuff in the universe. It ain't horrible tho.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A - Extremely pale yellow, reminiscent of white grape juice. Produced a fingertip of head that actually lasted a while. Suds cling to the insides of the glass. Lacing is minimal to non-existent.

S - Smells faintly of corn, grain, and grass. Other than that, nothing really here.

T - Initially not bad at all for the style. Very light watery taste that is complimented with something oddly sweet. Aftertaste however reminds me of pocket change.

M - Light bodied, medium carbonation, tinge of something coppery. Not entirely pleasant.

D - Pretty decent, overall. I'd actually prefer this over 99% of other bmcs. I do like the Ichiban a little better, but I'd have to say I'd take this over any other light beer.

This brew poured a medium head of fine to medium sized white bubbles that quickly disappeared. Its body was a straw yellow and was very carbonated. It had a very mild malt aroma and a skunky cheap macro swill flavor of weak hops.

Kirin Light: a Japanese interpretation of an American Light Beer that is actually brewed in America. I really don't know if that makes any sense, but that's exactly what this is. Kirin Light does lack some of the more nasty elements of American light beers, but it still maintains the same wateriness that you can find anywhere else.

Kirin Light pours a pale yellow straw color with a 2 finger foamy white head that disappears in under 30 seconds. The smell is light and clean, consisting mainly of some light malts and some crisp fruity smell. The mouthfeel is fizzy and watery, of course. The main flavor is some light grainiess (with some bready/toasty flavor noticeable at first), with some dryness on the palette. Light hop bitterness in the finish. There are some husky adjunct flavors present, but there are notes of some "funky tap water" taste here. If you live or have lived in a town with some nasty tasting tap water, you'll know what I mean. There is little aftertaste, with just some graininess, and there is no alcoholic warmth here either.

A bland, watery light beer is all that's here. Nothing too foul, but nothing that would warrant a second purchase either.

The ABV on this is 3.31 (BA please note!)

The color is very pale yellow, the aroma bland , this reminds me of O'Douls near beer!

This was served at Hama Sushi, when I asked, I found out it's not from Japan anymore but brewed by the same makers of Bud Light!

She suggested Asahi, which will be in another review!
