Provisions: A rustic multigrain sessionable saison/farmhouse ale
1 pint bottled on 01/19/2017
Purchased and cellared for 2 months
Poured on 6/1/2018 into tulip glass

Look: Pale Straw golden yellow with nice foamy head that layers nicely on the top of the glass

On the nose: Grainy, fruity and some funky esters. Getting a bit of banana, citrus zest, peach pit and a little bit of yeast-spice character

Taste: Definitely get a more grain-forward taste, some lemon zest, with less stone fruit than on the nose. Very light peppery notes. Even though its a session, getting that standard yeasty alcoholic bite at the end.

Mouthfeel: Light, not watery, but due to the bottle conditioning and ageing this beer endured there is a mellow and easy drinking bit to this beer. Smooth mouthfeel, but not crisp. There is a nice addition of carbonation bubbles as well. An aged saison takes on a different appeal. More grain, little funk, less yeast character--I see where they were going here.

Overall: One of the more interesting saisons I've tried, and instead of throwing it right in the freezer I cellared it for a couple months, adding likely some different character to the beer than just straight out of the tap or bottle. It was bottled last year too. As the beer warms, the grain build and some fruity funk shines out a bit more leaving me feeling good about this beer. Pretty delicous. Sure, it's not going to make a top 10 beer list--but that's not the point now is it. I'm not out there to just find my "favorite beers". This is about sampling new styles, expanding your taste buds, and getting a chance to try beers from all over the country/internationally. I'm certainly interested in trying some more of Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co. other beers!

Cloudy and golden 500 ml 01 19 2017 on label. Foamy white head. Smells funky in the way a Samson should. Tastes a bit grassy and lemony sour. A bit peppery and the mouthful tingles. Overall, not terrible.

500ml bottle. No apparent code date. Appearance: Crystal clear light golden with a medium white foam head. Aroma: Grassy, earthy, with some pepper and light citrus. A light bready maltiness lingers in the background. Taste: Starts with a light, thin, bready malt sweetness, followed by a light tartness that turns to a grainy, grassy, citrus peel, and black pepper finish on the swallow. Fairly strong bitterness for the style really hits on the back of the tongue. Mouthfeel: Fairly light body with a moderate carbonation. Finish: Really dry on the back of the tongue. An earthy, peppery citrus comes on quite strong retronasally. Overall: A grainy, light rustic saison that is very refreshing. Body is a bit thin, and a very light maltiness that is almost overpowered by strong saison esters and aromas of grass, pepper, and light citrus. Alcohol strength of the beer is well hidden. Really like the saison yeast character of this beer

the packaging totally sold me on this one, what a gorgeous bottle of beer. the beer itself was not what i expected it to be, but i liked it a lot just the same. a different kind of saison, more grain focused than yeast driven, which is less common but perfectly acceptable in my world, despite some of the criticism i have heard and read about it. i dont mind it not being all that funky, there still is a flavorful and unique yeast strain, as belgian as it is anything else, not super bretty or anything, but i dont miss it. im guessing wheat and rye make up the bulk of the grain bill here, both are somewhat more toasted, earthy, nutty, and deeper than simply the most pale forms of them. i like that richness while also being dry, i think it makes this very unique, rusitc, very liquid bread sort of vibe. not a ton of spice from the rye, but a nice toasty nuance that isnt like anything else i have had lately. those who want a brett bomb, sorry, but this is still just fantastic even without any of that. maybe it well develop over time, but its not worth waiting for in my opinion. great grain bill here, still real clean, but not too refined or anything, i appreciate it very much. it could stand a bit more carbonation for sure, and maybe a little more expensive than it should be for what it is, but its a tasty and interesting, if a little mild, example of the saison style. these guys rule.

Consumed October 8th, 2015 from a bottle marked 05-15-15, poured into a Teku glass.

Beer is a mostly-clear medium pale gold. A nice white head a couple of fingers high forms and sticks around for a long time, though sheeting and lacing is minimal.

Aroma is subdued, with only a hint of the phenolic funk I was expecting. A little spicy - is that rye I am smelling?

Flavor is mild for the style; golden apples and pears are hard to pick out through the predominately spicy (again, rye?) notes, dominated by modest black pepper. Firm bitterness on the finish that lingers a long time. Think of it as a "lite" version of the style.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and features adequate carbonation to keep the drinking experience zippy.

According to the label, this is apparently intended to be a "sessionable" saison. My session was one bottle. Not the full on saison experience some might crave, but a balanced, lighter take on the style that managed to be tasty enough to be very drinkable and light enough to not be a chore to drink (as I have found some saisons to be after they warm up a bit).

A: Great looking beer with a huge head and amazing lacing.

S: Kinda lager in the smell. Fruity, grain and a int of spice. Not very saison/farmhouse like. Smells too clean and refined.

T: You can taste a lot of grain character but not much yeas or hops. Again, similar to the smell, not saison like and kinda boring. If doing a blind taste I would have guessed this was a blonde ale...

M: Mouth feel is ok. Average carbonation, not as high as traditional saisons but gentle and friendly. Mostly grain in the finish like a pilsner or lightly hopped ale. Again, very blonde ale like and mediocre.

O: A disappointing and expensive misleading blonde ale disguised and mislabeled as a saison... Not a saison. Too clean and not interesting.

This is a nice attempt at a saison that you would find 4-6 years ago, before sour everything was cool. Nice big cloudy head as I pour into a 22oz goblet. Lemon zest but not strong on the nose. Really easy to drink some grain but body almost feels thin, not picking up any peppercorns but dont think Im supposed to. If you like different saisons you'll enjoy this, not a sour. Really happy I received as a gift but have seen for $6.49 @ Wholefoods. Pretty good brewery as well.
