only loosely a flanders red type, more of a red beer that ends up somehow sour and funky, there isnt all that much classic belgium happening here, despite the style descriptor. looks amazing though, all dense and dried blood red with a tall off white poofy head, pretty and persistent. i get cherry in the nose, red wine hard, although i am not sure either of those elements are part of this for real. no vinegar at all in the aroma, which makes this high on my list already for a flanders style red. instead its more oaky funk, wood tannins instead of acid in the traditional sense of sour beer, quite apart from a duchesse style and its peers. i notice the body as soon as i do the flavor here, its fuller, fluffy, big and rich for what it is. tons of oak on it, and a dark grain complexion that surpasses its color and aroma, chocolate and roast, no clue of the origin, but here it is loud and proud in the middle before the tangy red berry essence kicks in. softer carbonation and a lot of weight, some residual sugar, and more pucker later on than earlier. cool beer, not sure it spent enough time in wood, but one could hardly wish this was any more complex than it already is. these are the kinds of brews that have indeed turning me on so hard. awesome stuff, even though its an evolution away from perfection...

Okay sour red beer. The wine barrels show a lot. The rum barrels show a little. Very oak. Cherries and fruit. Some funk and some sourness.
Decent beer but nothing worth having again.
