Lively, spirited, and complex, Lucy Session Sour Ale is the latest labor of love from our Head Brewer, Josh Bischoff. A tribute to his daughter of the same name, Lucy was a stubborn beer to make — sour, sassy, and unpredictable — but then again, nothing worth doing comes easy. Light in body with lush tropical fruit notes and a tart, citrusy finish, our session sour is brewed with lemongrass, orange peel and passion fruit. Sip after sip, let Lucy win you over.

This beer pours a hazy orange with a smallish head. The aroma features notes of sour candy and very overripe fruit, and cotton candy. The flavor starts with an strong chemically flavor, like ink, and then moves to bitter lemon juice, underripe pineapple, and finishes with a woody bitter streak. The mouthfeel is light, fizzy, and almost soda like. Overall this is not an enjoyable experience. Maybe there is something wrong with this? It has a very unpleasant bitterness, unbalanced by any sweetness, and lots of artifiical and sugary qualities.

5 oz pour on tap. A pretty generic, lightly hopped non-fruited kettle sour. Moderately tart, hint of wheat, some citrus/tropical fruit flavor, easy to drink but not memorable.

Edit: I see that there IS fruit added. Hmm. I would have expected more fruit flavor. Oh well.

I decided to open up Indeed - but not to look for a job ;) (although I could have done that just as well). Anyway, Indeed from MN made a sour that had plenty of hoppiness unlike your usual sours. Smells very resinous pine but with a strong scent of citrus and its taste reminds me of IPAs, but very seasonable - and very sour. Maybe that’s why they call this a “session” sour, because it’s very similar to a session IPA, but it is also a very zesty sour. Sour in a fruity way, not a simple pucker, it is almost like a grapefruit juice with a slightly sensible hop bitterness.
I loved it, a nice, light and refreshing but meaningful brew, Indeed.

Thanks, Sam!

Got this on Sam and Laura’s visit out here. Had generally enjoyed the three beers I had from Indeed before, ranging from 3.81 to 3.98. Description online was, “Light in body with lush tropical fruit notes and a tart, citrusy finish, our Session Sour is brewed with lemongrass, orange peel and passion fruit. Sip after sip, let Lucy win you over.”

Poured a golden semi-hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy-to-fizzy off-white head. A few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Average watery lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 3.50)

Smelled passion fruit, lemon zest, grass, mandarin orange, pear, green grape, powdered iced tea and lime. (Smell - 3.75)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. Got that powdery sugary mix, more Arnold Palmer than anything else. Also passion fruit, lemon zest, mandarin orange peel, grass, green grape and pear. (Taste - 3.50)

Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, citrusy finish. (Feel - 4.00)

A very good session sour. (Overall - 3.75)

I was feeling a sour beer and this was what the store had. Was a bit overpriced, but I like sours a lot so went for it. Studied the package thoroughly for what kind this is to no avail other than 'citrus tropical'.

Its lemon pledge flavored.

If you're a fan of dish soap flavored beer, this one's for you.

A "canned on" and "freshest by" on the bottom. Thanks dudes.

I imagine someone handing this beer to me ten years ago, how quickly I would have spat it out. As it stands, this is exactly the beer I'd want on a sticky summer's night as a substitute for all the bland "light" beers out there. I can chug this down and it's just sour enough to keep me from questioning my taste

Pours a hazy lemon yellow with a thick white head that recedes slowly leaving very little lacing. The aroma is lemon. Flavor is sour lemon, not much going on. Feel is okay, well carbonated. Overall I would not buy/recommend this beer.
