Pours black with some brown, ring off white head and some lace. Smell is roasty followed by a milk and bakers chocolate with some lighter coffee notes, a light vanilla as well. Taste follows the nose, roast and chocolate, a little bit of a mid palate bitterness, some anise as well as finishes with a nice roasted flavours. Light-medium carbonation, medium bodied with a drying finish. A nicely flavoured, satisfying stout. Something I could have a few of on a fall day.

A: Pitch black with a thin root beer head, about a thumbs worth. This broke quickly, leaving little behind.

S: Roasted malts and coffee dominate the smell. There are also hints of cocoa.

T: The roasts and the coffee continue to dominate on the lead of the palate, but on the tail there is a vanilla and a bit of cocoa that is subtle.

M: Remarkably thin. Medium to low carbonation, and smooth.

O: A nice stout, I was surprised at how thin it seemed though. Not a huge detraction but something that is worth remarking.

Pours a big light tan head that quickly falls into a decent but thinning lacing above a really dark brown to black colored beer.

Rich dark roasted malts with a bunch of coffee blended in the aroma of this stout.

Dark roasted malts with a decent bit of coffee notes in the taste.

A dry aftertaste with some of the dark roasted malt tastes hanging around.

A pretty good tasting stout, I wish they were canning this stuff already.

Even though this beer looks to be heavier than a brick, it goes down easy and welcomes round two. The flavour is of vanilla ice cream and coffee with a very clean finish. There is not much head and is not very carbonated; this fits the style well. I am really hoping the brewers keep it longer than a seasonal.

The latest release from Sleeping Giant. Admittedly I was a bit slow picking this one up as its been available for a couple weeks now.

A - Pours pitch black with a solid thumb of fine bubbled mocha head, decent retention and some sporadic lacing.

S - Scent is dominated by espresso with hints of cocoa and some leafy greens.

T - Some bitter espresso and raw coffee grinds come through off the top, the leafy green hop notes come through alongside some musty cocoa. The chocolate flavours begin to overtake the espresso as it warms balancing it with a welcome sweetness and the earthy oats complement the flavour profile on the finish.

M - Medium bodied, smooth and velvety, and finishes with a touch of dryness.

O - This is a very tasty stout. I'm a fan of sweeter stouts and tend not to enjoy those that are overly bitter, but the sweetness on this one comes through as it warms, creating a nicely balanced and incredibly sessionable stout. Well worth seeking out and a welcome addition to the brewery's fall line-up.
