Wickuler pils has been a supermarket beer in Germany for a long long time (although it was available on tap in its local area. It used to be brewed in Wuppertal and the brewery was taken over by Grolsh I believe, it is now owned by the Oetker Group and brewed at this brewery in Dortmund.

Green 0.5 litre bottle, well in date, poured into two tumblers.

Very pale, even for a german lager/pilsner, good white head that tried to stay the distance.

Although it was a hot afternoon when I reviewed this it wasn't your normal refreshing taste of its style, more dry and metalic, not too good really.

The mouthfeel was watery and that metalic feel wouldn't go away.

I don't remember it being a world beater, but I thought it was better than it is today. I suppose moving it from its original home hasn't helped.

Fruity, lemony aroma hits you immediately after popping the cap. Very pale golden, with thick head, but spare, lazy carbonation. Taste is hops and malt. Finish is short and dry. A good, but not great pilsener.

.5L green bottle, best by July 2011. Pretty lame "Three Musketeer"-themed label, though this does offer more than most German beer bottle artwork, so maybe I should give Wicküler credit.

Pours a clear, pale gold. Nice pillowy head, with some above-average lacing.

The aroma is good, actually. There's a decent amount of aromatic Noble hoppiness: earthy, spicy, and sulfuric notes.

Flavor is uninspiring, though not terrible. Grainy, with that typical tangy, euro hop flavor. Firm bitterness throughout and on the finish. The mouthfeel is light and watery, though the carbonation is lively, helping things move along.

Run-of-the-mill pils here. Better than some industrial Euro lagers, but not great.
