Okay. This one is lacking....everything. I have tried my share of beer and I have to tell you that I have yet to come across something as plain as this one. It has a nose (and maintains a slight head, but I digress), so one should expect something.
But no. Nothing. Well....a light hint of malt.
Someone called it tart. It isn't. The person had sauerkraut while drinking it. It was the sauerkraut that was tart. The beer simply couldn't have been. Someone else said "robust". Seriously?
It's not watery or anything, so I don't know how this brewery achieved nothing out of something.
I seriously don't know what to say. You do have to try to believe this though.

A: Translucent and medium amber in colour. Many rising bubbles and a small amount of head that subsided to a partial covering.
S: Very nice smelling with citrus and a slight yeastiness. Hints of herbal, grapefruit, and cirtrus rind hops. Some peppery yeast. Balanced towards hops as expected with some indistinguishable slight maltiness.
T: Upfront and slightly strong but pleasant taste. The notes detected in the smell are a lot more subdued in the taste. The maltiness comes through more in the flavour with less hoppiness detected but it is quite balanced. Slightly sweet and roasty toffee biscuit malts. The hops are slightly resiny and dank with some pine and citrus. Medium bitterness with a quite clean and short aftertaste.
F: The carbonation is light but present. It has a pleasant coating thickness. Just slightly drying.
O: A nice well rounded beer. Slightly complex but not overpowering flavour. Both drinkable and enjoyable. Could be improved with a brighter flavour and a bit less bitterness.

This pours a clear gold with about a thumb's worth of head. That broke quickly leaving minimal lacing. The smell is earthy and then malts. Not much there. The taste is disappointing, lead by malts and then a slight hoppy bitterness. Feel is light with medium carbonation and a dry finish.
This is a big miss for me. Not a lot to distinguish it from a lot of other mediocre beers on the market.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from LCBO for around $3 CDN. Another Bock from Big Rig.
Appearance - Pours a clear rich golden colored beer topped with half a finger of white head. OK retention and some parse lacing left behind. Goodly amount of carbonation rises to the surface.
Smell - A fine earthy / citrus aroma aroma appears initially hiding a decent malty presence underneath. The citrus is of orange and hints of lime. Fairly subdued but cohesive grain aroma too. Interesting nose in all.
Taste - Initially a little sweet and malty, but then slight flavors of orange with lime zest shine through followed by a modestly earthy bitterness. Not sure what New Zealand hops are added, but i get something akin to Simcoe in there. Works nicely with and otherwise grainy and sweet blend.
Mouthfeel - Smooth and relatively light body, dry finish, expressive carbonation and a slight prickle on the tongue.
Overall - Hoppin Maibock, might not be the most innovative beer, but with a hefty dose of New Zealand hops a orangey, limey flavor and aroma explosion and refined with some earthy bitterness all over a tradition grainy malty base, gives off a pretty good Maibock. Worth a purchase and this may become a repeat purchase in the near future.

Pours a slightly deep golden colour, one finger of white head and a bit of lace. Smell is a mix of perfumey and fruity hops, substantial hit of pineapple and melon, some doughy malt as well. Taste is a mix of hoppy and malty, really quite nice, moderate bitterness throughout, fruity and floral hop flavours with more fruit in the finish, dry aftertaste. Medium carbonation, dry with a slick and oily feel, medium body. This was quite pleasant, not an outstanding beer but it is flavourful and very easy to drink.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 24 2016 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a gorgeous, clear golden-amber colour, with nearly an inch of fluffy, soapy white foam that displays good retention. Over the next few minutes it proceeds to cake the inner surface of the glass with a sponge-print pattern of lovely lacing, with a messy collar and patchy, frothy cap remaining afterwards. Looks great, but the aroma takes a more subdued approach to presentation. Fruity is probably the best word to describe it, with sort of a melony, citrusy vibe, and notes of orchard fruit amidst a subtle, grainy background sweetness.
Not particularly bock-like, but still quite tasty. Grainy, doughy malts, some biscuit and honey sweetness all come through initially, but notes of melon and grapefruit are more prominent. Overripe orchard fruits and some resiny, leafy bitterness on the back end that lasts into the aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with crisp carbonation that softens quickly, smoothing out the mouthfeel over time.
Final Grade: 3.76, a B+. I like Big Rig's Hoppin' Maibock, but it's fair to point out that this is not exactly a traditional example of the style. The NZ hops are much showier than the Continental/noble varieties usually employed in these beers, but they do give this strong lager a good, somewhat unique punch of tropical fruit character. I prefer this over their Bock Me Gently, and will likely be buying more cans over the course of this spring. Not super-exciting, but worth a try.
