I picked this up at the Binny's store in Bloomingdale, IL as part of a build-your-olwn six pack for $9.99. 12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

The beer poured a mostly clear dark mahogany color and made a 2-finger tan head. Retention was short lived and it produced no lacing whatsoever or it would have gotten a higher appearance score.

Big toffee and caramel aroma.

This is a hoppy bock. It's not overly bitter, but there is way more piny hop flavor in here than what you would expect from a bock. There's big toffee sweetness too along with some dark bready malts and a touch of raisin.

Medium body, almost creamy, with mediun high carbonation.

A new twist on a classic style, and that's part of its problem. When I pick out a bock I expect a malty sweet beer, not a hop bomb. I'd be OK with it if they put something on the label to let you know it was going to be hoppy, but with no such information it kibd of made me upset. All that said, it's still a good tasting beer. Maybe they should create a new category called "hoppy bock" so at least you'd know what you're getting.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #87 (Apr 2014):

Malty, Toasty, Bread, Thick

Don’t confuse this for a Red Ale as Baderbrau went a little new with an old style, a German Bock with a bit more hop character than usual. A whole lot of depth in the malt bomb, balanced with overtones of dark bread and a brown malt sweetness that lingers. Red Velvet certainly sets itself apart from the rest.

Delicious beer in the bock and marzen families. Enjoying a bottle poured in a pint glass. Taste smooth but thick in a good way. Nice carmel and malt flavor with a creamy red ale finish. Very easy to drink. Will drink this seasonal again. great value at $7.99 a sixer.

Can pours a tawny reddish brown, with a fluffy head of foam and concentric rings of lacing.
Toasty malt aroma, somewhat dry and faint. Smooth and creamy with a toasty malt taste.
Finishes dry and clean, easy drinking and on the lighter side of medium bodied.
Overall this is a pretty nice bock that's dry with a nutty toasty malt flavor.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. My third beer from Baderbräu Brewing Co., this one a bock. Acquired as part of a mixed six pack at the local beer store. "Brewed and bottled for Baderbrau LLC, by Stevens Point Brewery, Stevens Point, WI."

Poured into a Mr. Punch pint glass.

A - Pours two fingers of thick tan head on top of a dark ruby colored body. Some bubbles lazily floating topside. Nice head retention. Semi-clear appearance. No lacing to speak of. Looks pretty nice.

S - I'm getting lots of funky yeast presence on the initial sniff, followed by some coppery metallics, toasty brown bread, cola, and mild indistinct spicing. Raisin / date / fig / plum fruitiness.

T - Taste is of dry brown bread maltiness, notes of chocolate / toffee / caramel / nuttiness, some coppery metallics, cola spicing, and lots of dark dried plum / fig / date / raisin fruitiness. Earthy and woodsy. Yeasty green apple skin.

M - Feel is crisp and mostly clean with some slight lingering brown breadiness.

Overall, it's pretty forgettable, but I'm enjoying it, and it is probably the most memorable of the three beers I have tried from Baderbräu thus far. I look forward to more.

I enjoyed this unique tasting bock from Baderbrau. The branding and can art/description pegs this as a dessert style beer which in some ways makes sense. Overall I got the sense that the caramel (and somehow chocolate tasting) malt backend was really ramped up here with only a feint hopping. There is a chewiness and slick feel here that sticks with the after dinner type effect. Despite this I found it less than daunting to take down a few cans. Very decent

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Am I the only one hoping for a red velvet cupcake-flavored beer? Either way, this stuff pours a dark ruby topped by a finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises rich caramel, candied orange peel, a hint of cocoa powder, and graham cracker. The taste brings in more of the same, the candied orange peel taking a stronger role here. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a smooth feel. Overall, a nice, tasty bock, probably the best Baderbräu offers.
