On the pour, the color is a bit dark, in my opinion, but it is a clear deep golden-yellow with a half inch of foamy white head. Surprisingly strong cling to the glass.

The smell is like a yeasty biscuit dough with just a bit of lemon and grassy green hops. Very clean and crisp, there is nothing muddling things up.

The aroma promises a refreshing taste and it delivers. Crisp malts up front, with a bit of grassy hop character, some mild grape flavor and just a bit of lemony zing. There is a little mineral note that is pleasant. But no mistake about it...the malt is the star here and it could maybe use a bit more of a contribution from the hops to bring out the fruity flavors a little more. The finish is floral and lemony, medium bodied, mild on the bitterness.

I am pleasantly surprised by this beer. It is a decent representation and interpretation of the style which inspired it, and overall it is a nice brew. The overall category rating reflects the adherence to style and the high enjoyment factor. Recommended.

A - Pours a clear golden-yellow with a finger of frothy white head.

S - Aroma is a mix of pilsner and grainy malt.

T - Starts off with pilsner malts with some lemon zest and a touch of citrus hops. Carries through to the end.

M - Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and lightly tart finish.

D - Very drinkable, came from a beer club selection. Good example of the Kölsh style but I probably won't buy more.

Best by 1/26/17. Beer of month club gift.

Pours light yellow, light gold color, one finger head. High clarity.

Nose is slightly fruity, white grapes. Grassy.

Taste continuous with combination of sweet and tart white grape flavor. Mild bitterness.

Light bodied, medium carbonation. Semi clean and dry finish but a tad of lingering bitterness.

Pretty easy drinking beer but doesn't pack a ton of flavor. What flavor it does have is a touch sweet.

Not my favorite style but, as they go, this one is pretty darn good. Smooth golden appearance, sweet tasting. Low ABV (common for the style) makes this very "sessionable." Recommended.

On tap, in a shaker pint glass, at the Hog Island Oyster Company, in Napa, CA.

Appearance - A pale yellow color. Thin head yet great lacing (odd).

Smell - A faint fruit nose (pineapple juice, maybe).

Taste - Somewhat sweet. Slightly acidic/tart. Mild hop hit on the backend.

Mouth - A touch slick. A little thin.

Overall - I'm becoming very fond of Kolsch style beers. This one, however, is a bit lacking. I realize this is a "lagered ale." I was hoping for more ale and less lager.

Bottled 11/25/15. 4.8% ABV per the label.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, grass, popcorn, and slight corn flake aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, grass, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Serving type: bottle.
