(Notes from tasting)

Calicraft Wild Wit: wheat ale brewed with Sauvignon Blanc juice

Appearance: hazy yellow, hefeweizen colored

Smell: banana, wheat, light honey, white grape

Taste/Mouthfeel: very crisp, very slight burn/tingle from spices, wheat, very slight sourness

Pretty good.

Poured in to a tasting glass.

500ml bottle into SA perfect pint.

A: Pours a lightly cloudy sparkling pale golden color with very active carbonation that created a foam and thick three-finger head that took forever to slowly collapse into a soft looking, dense, and chunky quarter inch film that reminded me of melted vanilla ice-cream. Chunks of patchy lace were left down the glass. Great head retention.
S: Coriander and wheat dominate the nose. Scents are light and crisp. I get a touch of spice and what I think is the wine yeast. Smells good but nothing especially special.
T: The wheat base definitely dominates the flavor, but orange juice, coriander and spicy hops mix in nicely. The finish is full of wildflower honey and carries over to the aftertaste alongside drying sauvignon blanc yeast and a mineraly flavor. The honey is my favorite part as it tastes subtly sweet and floral as opposed to cloyingly sweet and sugary.
M: Medium-full body, chewy mouthfeel with soft but foamy carbonation that bubbles up in my mouth. Smooth and hearty.
O: Light in flavor but complex from all the adjuncts. Wine yeast and wildflower honey lend some delicious and unique flavors. Not my favorite wit I’ve tried, but definitely worth checking out.
