I've always wanted to open a bar or brewpub in an old gas station, but being from the northeast it probably wouldn't work because of the weather... you'd never be able to get enough people into such a small place as the Filling Station!
Anyway, I found some good conversation on my visit, and the bartender was great and played some great music as well. The tap selection was great but I'd just walked a long way and I was looking for something light and easy and didn't really come up with anything to my liking (too many IPAs and bigger beers). In the end, however, I think I chose an Imperial stout!
If I ever make it to San Antonio again I'll certainly check it out, and in the meantime I hope they do well.

Very small place. Tasting room on one side of the building, pizza on the other, tables outside too. Probably the best selection in San Antonio near the river walk.

They serve in plastic cups. It's a tragedy. But the place is still dope.
Bomb! and Yellow Rose on tap and you can get growlers to go no problem. Multiple years of Bigfoot on tap. Overall a great selection. My first visit I found the taplist to have way too many IPAs and pale ales but they had much more variety a year and a half later.
The indoor seating is scarce as this place is tiny but there's a good amount of outdoor space.
Growler fills are reasonably priced and the $3 plastic growler is a cheap alternative when you don't have your own handy.
Also, dude serving beers (he's been there both times I've been) is a cool dude.

Was in here on a recent Saturday. The beer selection has improved since the last review. There are now 24 taps of nothing but well-selected craft beers, which is nothing short of amazing for a place that can only fit around 6 people in the bar area (luckily there are lots of seats outside). The owner happened to be there with me and enthusiastically gave me a tour of their "cold room". It is the size of a normal, non-walk-in closet, but has three tiers of a total of 24 kegs packed into it with a power winch to move them around. The attention to detail and obvious love of good beer really shows through in every aspect of this place. The bar keep was knowledgeable, friendly, and able to make recommendations. The prices were reasonable. The attention to detail and obvious love of good beer really shows through in every aspect of this place. It is on the edge of the Prince William district and close to the Alamo and Hemisfair Park. You should definitely stop in when you are nearby.

The Filling Station Tap House just opened up next door to the Station Cafe occupying their original location. Housed in a converted gas station (hence the name) what this place lacks in space it makes up for in charm, character and conviviality. Walk in and you will feel like a regular, instantly—there’s no place to hide so you might as well be friendly and join in the conversations.
There’s 10 active tap handles with room for more, along with bottled beer and wine. The taps skew towards IPAs with a solid selection of Texas brews represented. Compared to the taps the bottled beers are pretty much run-of-the-mill.
You can bring in food from next door. It’s dog friendly, and there’s plenty of seating outdoors for those times when it’s pleasant outside (brutally hot summers excluded). They will stay open past 9 as long as there’s people (slow days they’ll close on time) and they’re not open on the weekends, yet. Rumor is there’s plans to start brewing and possibly offering growler fills.
I’m hooked--I visited two days in a row! Say hi to Jarvis!
