The colour is brown, the liquid is clear. The finger thick head quickly disappears leaving no lacing.
The smell is malty with some bitterness. Chocolate truffles, hay/grass and some toffee.
Malty flavours dominate the taste. Milk chocolate, toffee, green plants/tree sap and beef stock. Hints of spices and figs. Medium body. The aftertaste brings growing sweetness, more brown malt and clean bitterness. The finish is somewhat unclean with spices, tree sap and a touch of alcohol.
The carbonation is light; the bubbles small, fresh and long-lived. The liquid is surprisingly smooth for the strength.
A tasty English brown ale.
