Poured into a pint glass from a bomber bottle. Pours orange red with a tiny white head. Smells of fruity berries, slight banana and citrus, but little hints of whiskey. Tastes of grainy fruit, with the banana dominating, and caramel with very slight whiskey. Beer is full bodied, lightly carbonated, and a tad syrupy. Overall, a very good beer.

25.4 fl oz to becker. Sweet aroma with high head. Pours amber and bubbly. Flavorful with pine tastes more like an ale than a barleywine. Overall a great beer.

The beer pours a nice and creamy head that dissipates quickly but still leaves quite a bit of head on the surface and around the rim. The beer itself is a nice clear and light brown-amber color. The overall look is nice to look at and is pretty appealing to the eye.

The smell is wonderful. The aroma consists of the strong malt notes found in a barleywine with a nice wood accent from the barrel aging. The malt notes are fairly caramel notes with a bit of toffee and a light hop bitterness that makes it drinkable. The barleywine aromas nicely mix with the vanilla and wood notes from the barrel aging. The bourbon notes are certainly there and more on the sweeter side than anything else. Overall, it has a very nice smell; present and a good mixture of notes but not overpowering.

The taste is nothing short of fantastic. In addition to the sweet caramel notes from the malt, the beer taste also has that light bitter hop note to make the malt notes easier to deal with. The malt notes also give it nice sweet caramel and light toffee notes. Like the smell, the barleywine notes mix very well with the barrel. The barrel notes give the beer a good bit of woodiness with a present vanilla note. The bourbon presence is pretty good in this taste. It has a nice leather smell to it.

The feel is pretty good too even if it is a bit light for a Barleywine. There is very light carbonation and the beer goes down smoothly even if it is a bit heavy bodied. Heavy bodied but feels a lot more drinkable than that.

Overall, a very good beer and worth getting if you can get your hands on it. It's certainly a nice and drinkable barleywine without losing any of the traits that make the style good. It's also one of the better barrel aged barleywines that I've come across. Go for it.

Bottle from Dawson's while in Maryland. First Anniversary beer so I assume this is Batch 1 of this brew. Hand numbered 289/500. Pours hay dark amber colored with a creamy bubbly off white head. Ara of honey, toffee, hard candies, vanilla and bourbon, a bit of lemon peel, oak, smells very sweet. Flavor follows very sweet with honey, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, light citrus, caramel. Rich body but not super heavy, medium carbonation. While I prefer a bit more rich caramel malt and oak, this is a nice BA barleywine that's worth grabbing if you see it.
