A Champion of Flavor
This crisp clean dark lager begins with hints of roasted coffee beans and rich chocolate but showcases a surprisingly light body and mouthfeel. This Schwarzbier (German for “Black Beer”) is moderately hopped with Noble German hops that complement the delicate malt backbone. Not to be underestimated this light lager is a true champion of flavor! Caw!
BITTERNESS (IBU): 27
COLOR: Dark brown
MALT: Pilsner, Munich Carared, Carafa, Caramunich Type 2
HOPS: Perle

A deep deep dark brown; which only shows when backlit. Nice light brown head; very nice retention in form of a noticeable cap of creamy light brown. There is also some decent yet splotchy lacing.
Nose is at first a light baking chocolate, a very subtle roast that is reminiscent of a very light coffee. I notice a small amount of hops as well, they contribute an almost moist forest air sort of vibe.
The taste leans mostly into the soft chocolatey coffee, a minor lightly burnt toast like note. Minor noble hops on the finish.
Mouthfeel is light but full and creamy mouthfeel, a minor roasty bitterness on a beer that finishes very clean and moderately dry.
A very smooth and easy drinking schwarzbier, to me it is mostly chocolate forward with a little bit of coffee roast.

Black color, foamy two-finger white head with retention. Malt forward. Notes of coffee, chocolate, and pumpernickel. Supposedly on nitro, but not as smooth and creamy as I’d expect for it being served that way. Slightly sweet finish.

A draught pint at JBGB's here in Baltimore: dark reddish brown body w/tan head; coffee & chocolate nose; roasted malt taste; light-medium body; not bad, but I've had better

Look: Pours a dark brown with a one finger tan head.
Smell: Roasty, chocolate
Taste: Crisp, clean, roasted coffee
Feel: Light, crisp mouthfeel
Overall: Wonderful representation of a style that should be more common.

Solid dark brown appearance with a large tan head and good lacing. Chocolate pops up first in the aroma, closely followed by roasted malts and coffee. Taste reflects those same attributes but does not get too bogged down in malt dominance as the herbal, floral hops add balance. Bitterness more prominent in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel.

Walnut brown color with speckles of lace left by an active beige head. Nose is that sweet spot mix of coffee and cola with a touch of molasses or baker's chocolate. Flavor and texture both hit the mark here. The flavor is cocoa powder, dark coffee, and a hint of black licorice. The texture is exquisitely smooth with a heavy dose of carbonation as well. Nice overall effort in an underrated and underrepresented style.
