On tap at Union. Served in a Union sampler glass.

Pours a very dark brown. Nice big tan head with good retention and nice lacing as it goes down the glass. Thin collar throughout.

Nose is really nice with roast and chocolate alongside a faint hoppiness. Rich body with heavy chocolate and a bit of roast. Nice backing oats. A bit too roasty through the finish for me, but otherwise quite nice.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass.

Deep dark espresso brown head, cascading up nicely to an easy four fingers. Settles a little quick to a small puck, resting up on a totally opaque classic dark walnut body.

Excellent aroma. Thick sensing roast grains, husky rich in smell giving to airy dark cocoa powder even a little bit nutty. Sense of light cream, even a bit thick almost into vanilla territory as well. Real nice and inviting.

Palate takes a much more interesting turn. Hints of aroma sweetnes are very much contrasted by a different angle. Mid palate fills with a good bitter char, crackling very dark roast as well. Hints of light bitter tobacco leaf and mild hop bitterness hit the finish like a real simple cigar. Tobacco embers and almost a woody tone comes out of this, leaving much of the perceived chocolate notes in the dust. Mouthfeel doesn't quite get the incredible creamy quality but is decent enough to let the flavors permeate through.

A real contrasting oatmeal stout from aroma to palate, a solid good one too!

This one is a little thin, both in the flavor and mouthfeel departments. The palate is dominated by nice burnt, bitter notes that border on astringent. But there's not quite enough sweetness and body to balance it out. Not a bad brew, just not very assertive for an 8% stout.

Pours intensely thick and builds a creamy head of dark brown foam. Nicely aromatic nose of charred oats, marshmallows, coffee roast, chocolate malts, Graham cracker and embers.

The flavor is dry with a ribbon of sweetness. I'd swear it was a fruit stout. It ends with a charred oatmeal, chocolate malt and light roasted coffee. It also holds some bitterness from the hops.

This drinks a bit thin, for how viscous the pour was, but overall it's a satisfying beer.
