Brewed in collaboration with Townsite Brewing.
Appearance - Pours a cola brown with two fingers of foamy beige head.
Smell - belgian yeast (clove, spices), earthy hops, bready caramel malts.
Taste - Starts off with the belgian yeast (clove, spices) then goes into the bready caramalts and then goes into a dark fruit (plum). It ends with the earthy hops.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes dry with the yeast lingering in the backend.
Overall - An easy drinking saison. I like the yeast and plum flavours in this brew.

This pours a dark brown almost black with a thin white head. The nose brings forward some roasted malt, yeast and some earthy herbal hops. The taste is much the same and definitely on the earthy side. The mouthfeel is very light, almost watery, with the carbonation being light as well.

341ml bottle, another part of the Brews Brothers collaboration pack, this time with Townsite Brewing. Their Belgian brewmaster seems to have had a hand in naming this one, as it is the French rendition of 'House of the Rising Sun', which has a similar, but different jail-themed title.
This beer pours a clear, dark brownish amber hue, with two fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and quite fizzy tan head, which leaves some streaky, arching lace around the glass as it quickly subsides.
It smells of lightly roasted, yet doughy caramel malt, edgy earthy yeast, singed black orchard fruit, molasses, and tame leafy, weedy hops. The taste is more grainy, semi-sweet caramel malt, a wet ash astringency, subtle phenolic yeast, weak and watery plum and raisin notes, reduced brown sugar, and plain earthy, weedy hops.
The carbonation is quite light and pleasantly engaging in its lilting frothiness, the body a solid medium weight for the style, and mostly smooth, a wee bit of yeast and char gnawing away the veneer. It finishes off-dry, the caramel malt pushing through the various esters that seem to fall away before it.
A decent enough saison, blackened as it is, which truth be told, isn't all that much. Keeping the ABV at a nice round 5% qualifies this as table or session worthy, I suppose, when many versions of late amp it right the hell up. Worth checking out, especially if you've just checked out of the big house.

Think in a good way, this sharp little beer does channel the saison profile, floral and yeasty, but also a dark bitter molasses hat is a little stagnant. Overly sour, then bitter, almost an umami finish. Intriguing directions in this beer, but it could be much further refined.
