Didn't read anywheres about this being a sour stout. more than likely an infected bottle here. Very thin and extremely sour on the scent and taste. might have to revisit?

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Black with a thin beige head.

Smell: Alcohol, coffee, bourbon, forest like smells.

Mouthfeel/ Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of bitter oak like flavor, coffee and a touch of warm bourbon and Malts.

Overall: Excellent stout, complex flavors. But a pain to open the bottle, it comes with a wax covering over the cap.

What a great 12% imperial stout. Drinks like it's a 6% stout with a great body and full body. I would love to see this barrel aged. Great toffee and Carmel tones with great chocolate undertones. Great imperial stout

Picked up a couple bottles at the brewery last weekend. I couldn't wait to get home to try it. A nice smooth BBA stout not big on the bourbon flavor but a nice mellow taste. A great mouthfeel with a smooth finish. I'm hopping a little more age will bring some other flavors from this good beer.

We were visiting Maine, saw the beer, figured we'd open it immediately and if we liked it, buy more. upon opening the first smell is very sweet with a slight trace of bourbon and honey
Poured out jet black and more bourbon rolled out.
Uncharacteristically sweet for a 12% stout, but again, it wasn't aged for long.
Mouthfeel was thick, but not quite as chewy as, let's say, bcbs
Surprisingly drinkable for a heavy stout.
Definitely a solid choice if you see it on the shelf. Bought another to age a bit for comparison

Picked up a bottle at The Good Beer Store in Fryeburg Maine.

First off, I love the look of the bottle itself. You first notice the maroon wax seal covering the top half of the neck. The label is simple, yet attractive and reminds me of an old world parchment with its calligraphy font design covering a faded map.

The appearance is dark with almost no light penetrating from the other side. A chocolate milk colored spiderweb lacing covers the sides of the glass and the top of the beer, about half an inch.

Alcohol dominates the aroma with traces of fig and dark chocolate lingering behind. A very sweet smell.

Upon first sip I notice the alcohol is not nearly as present as the aroma would have me believe. In fact it is quite well hidden despite the 12% ABV. I detect large amounts of dark chocolate with a very faint hint of bourbon. Goes down very dry.

The mouthfeel is chewy and sticky, and very dry. A slight alcohol burn is felt upon swishing the beer around my mouth.

Overall I was very impressed with this beer. It's the first time I've had anything from this brewery and hopefully won't be the last.
