On cask at Hogshead. Dark black and the head disappeared almost instantly. Aroma was slightly roasty, not very strong, nondescript malts. Flavor was a little thin as was the body, mostly tasted like mild roast malts with the very slightest hint of licorice. Overall very average and a letdown given some of the other beers I've had at Hogshead. Gilpin Black Gold is so good that I just don't see the point to them brewing this beer at all.

quality beer, like everything hogshead does, but truthfully only pretty good by their high standard. soe]me acidity here, which need more context if its going to be present in a stout like this, but its sort of old world and english in the right ways, interesting, not boring, and nuanced in the sense that their are not, in general, other beers like this at all, and i respect it for that, as much as i think its a little amateur as they go here, and somewhat less incredible than what they normally do. dark cocoa, roast, molasses but not sweet, english ale yeast, some strange old ale elements. nitro would flatter this, they should consider that, acidity is weird in the style, but the beer is better than it seems to be getting credit for here. on tap at vine street for stout month, and one of the more interesting beers happening there right now. i trust these guys unequivocally to make great beer, and they never let me down, and while this is a weird one for them, somewhat out of the normal wheelhouse, it makes perfect sense, and is real drinkable. predictably good from these guys...
