Charter Oak's Royal Charter Pale Ale beer (named after the Connecticut charter hidden in the Charter Oak Tree) is the little brother to our IPA, but still brewed with plenty of flavor and hops. This top fermented ale is solidly an American Pale Ale style; not too sweet and not too bitter, but complex enough to not disappoint you. From your first sip and scent of a citrus and floral aroma, a solid backbone of the Cascade hop can be detected. We hope you will enjoy this well-balanced, medium-bodied, and deep golden appearance in our Pale Ale. We can assure you it is not intensely hopped up, but only a subtle bitterness and dry finish. This is a beer you can drink all night long!

Pours a clear golden color with a nice head that laces the glass. The smell is hoppy yet very clean. The taste was nice with some hops in the beginning and a nice balance with sweet malt on the finish. Overall good but not very exciting.

I had high hopes for this beer, expecting it to be a more balanced, malty version of the Wadsworth IPA, instead I got a sour mess. It tastes more like a poorly made gose than an IPA. At least the Wadsworth can be safely called an IPA. I'm shocked that these can even be sold. I fear that these positive reviewers are blinded by their local pride - this beer is nearly unpalatable.

a :: copper/amber, some lacing, one finger head with a short lifespan.
s :: sour and sickly sweet, vague floral smells.
t :: attacks the palate, the offensive sour taste covers up any other flavors that may be hiding in there.
m:: thin, slightly sticky, kind of a sweet American Ale feel.
o:: a waste of a clean glass.

West coast styled beer pours a distinctive amber shade and enjoys a nice head of foam. The beer enjoys a citrus nose and sessionable beer. Well-balanced ale with plenty of malt backbone and the hops become 'alive' on the back end. Unlike the typical west coast styles, the intensity of this full flavored hop did not become any more robust with each sip or pint, but rather remains stable.
