Got this one from Masterski quite a while back. Cheers!

From a 750 into a snifter
IBU: 42
SRM: 29
Batch 12/40
Old ale with vanilla beans and aged 4 months in bourbon barrels

APPEARANCE: Pours a small, thinner, bubbly, loose, fizzy, light tan head with lousy retention. Head quickly fizzes down to a ring only. Dark mahogany brown, opaque, with no carbonation evident. Looks pretty flat by the end and leaves no lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Big nose of dark fruits, brown sugar and alcohol. Dates, prunes and raisins with oak, vanilla, caramel and bourbon from the barrel. Pretty complex and plenty to contemplate, but a bit boozy still.

TASTE: Dark fruits, leather, caramel and bourbon with oak notes up front. Alcohol at the swallow, slightly harsh, with a bold and lingering finish of dates, prunes, grapes, leather, vanilla, toffee and caramel sweetness, as well as some oak and wood flavors. Very sweet, and the alcohol is a little heavy on the hair spray at the swallow.

PALATE: Medium body and, surprisingly enough, slightly higher levels of carbonation. Prickly on the palate, goes down a bit harsh and finishes very sticky.

OVERALL: This had quite a bit of character here, but it was overly sweet and boozy. The alcohol was pretty harsh as well, like hair spray or rubbing alcohol, making the flavors harder to enjoy and the feel rather uncomfortable. This would need some more bitterness to balance out the tremendous amounts of sweet malt flavor, as well as a less harsh alcohol presence from the barrel. Something that was cool to try but wouldn't want to dip into batch 12/40 (whatever the hell that means) again anytime soon. Thanks again Masterski!

On-tap at One Trick Pony. Served in a snifter.

A - Thin, off-white foam settles to a thin collar. Opaque, very dark brown, body.

S - Loads of bourbon, spicy oak, vanilla, touch of coconut, dark chocolate, molasses, anise, some caramel. A tad boozy, but not excessively so. I believe this batch was 10.7%.

T - Taste is quite similar, with bourbon, oak, raisins and dates, dark chocolate, caramel and toffee, and vanilla. More mellow than the aroma, and quite easy to drink.

M - A tad thin for the ABV - decidedly medium in body. Low carbonation, smooth texture, not overly oaky or dry, and fairly clean in the finish. Not much alcohol warmth here; far less than suggest by the aroma.

D - Good stuff. Not a Bourbon Barrel 4th Dementia killer by any stretch, but a nice local beer in the same vein. The aroma was a tad hot, but otherwise this was quite easy to drink for the ABV and the style. Would happily have purchased a growler if they would have let me.

Edited February 7th 2016.
Side by side of a 2014 and 2015 bottle

2015 was a lot more barrel upfront with a spicy finish. Hints of dark fruits with a strong taste of alcohol very evident on the backend despite being a lower ABV when compared to the 2014. (10.5% ABV vs 11.3% ABV) Poured a dark hue of brown compared to the almost black hue of the 2014

2014 the barrel was a step down but not in a bad way. Still had that nice bourbon sweetness. Much smoother mouthfeel with lower carbonation (propably from cellaring) Alcohol was present but not in your face, and came more as a slight warming sensation on the way down.

Much preferred the 2014 and will grab a couple more new bottles to see how they hold up next to each other in the coming year. Overall a very solid beer, and one I will continue to pick up whenever I am back home visiting family.
