Geez—not another IPA! That’s right, this is not just another IPA. Consider it a next generation IPA. A slightly sweet, lower ABV, IPA providing welcome relief from the onslaught of bitter hop bombs out there. Its complex aromatic layers, suggest mango, melon, pine and berries, are driven by whole-leaf Mosaic and Citra hops which are then balanced by an acidulated and pilsner malt bill. Finally, its silky smooth mouthfeel will leave you asking for “mo!”

12oz can, part of some rather dearly priced new offerings from this brewery to show up around here of late. The name and description here can only remind me of Moe the bartender from the Simpsons.

This beer pours a hazy, medium golden amber colour, with a near-teeming tower of puffy, rocky, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent layered and webbed lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.

It smells of gritty and grainy pale malt, muddled tropical fruit, some hard water flintiness, and a growing sense of leafy, weedy, and resinous piney green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, blood orange and red Texas grapefruit citrus rind, some earthy yeastiness, free-range berry sugar, and more weedy, floral, and wet pinecone verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite tame in its quotidian frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and genuinely smooth, with a nice inborn creaminess there from the veritable get-go. It finishes well off-dry, the malt and mixed fruitiness easily sending us out into the night.

Overall - yeah, this is certainly a pleasant enough version of the style, but hardly the Brave New World as espoused on the label marketing blurb. Oooooh - tropical fruit! And citrusy/piney hops! And a sweet malt backbone! Colour me duly unimpressed and impressed at the same time.

Must have been brought back into rotation, canned 3/8/23. Nice amber color, smallish head. Picking up tropical fruit on the nose - mango and pineapple. Taste is very clean and the hop flavors are presented with moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is light, semi-dry, modest carbonation and a smooth finish. Very drinkable with a moderate 6.2% ABV.

draught
Lovely, velvety, thick off-white head. Very clear, medium golden orange hue. Subtle, spiced caramel and mandarin orange aroma. First sip is a bit bitey but quickly subsides with the bite receding into the malt flavor welling up. Spiced floral with a tiny citrus peel note and a lasting finish with an easy bite. Medium bodied with that bite.

very cool ipa here, a bit different from what else is out there, and another great hoppy beer from crux. surprised i havent reviewed this one before, i feel like this was not my first time enjoying it. in any event, it has a little deeper color to it from the tap, kind of bronze in the glass. aroma is more uniquely fruity than i often get from mosaic and citra hops, and it seems unlikely that those are the only ones in here, i get that grassy limey galaxy hop character, even some el dorado type melon, but im not sure if there are any other hops actually in this or not. some crackery malt here too, lighter in taste than its color suggests, and drier too, unique base for these hops that seems to not just support them well but bring out some cool nuance. tangerine and melon in the flavor, some slight sharpness, passion fruit tang for a flash, some pineapple and meyer lemon, and an almost candied center of this, even though the grain seems dry, not sure where that comes from, almost a cryo hop sort of climax, insanely fresh and flavorful, i cant quite figure it out, and i cant get enough, i drink my pint way too quickly trying to understand what im tasting, its very distinct, especially for these two hops, which seem like such well known entities at this point, especially in combination with each other. awesome ipa, one i have often overlooked but will be drinking with some regularity now if it keeps on tasting like this. really impressive and different from the crowd.

Dank malty sweetness cut with a mellow melon note. This beer pours an impressive golden amber with a creamy cap. Mosaic, but not the typical mo. Might have proved to be a bit too much mo?

Amber golden pour , bit short of clear but not hazy. Aroma is initially caramel malt with some floral/fruity effect - mango, sweet citrus, tangerine. Taste follows - sweet caramel malt, melon, perhaps a bit of strawberry. Faint hop presence, but little noted bitterness - not see the 50 IBU. Win here is the mouthfeel - so smooth, almost creamy with perfect carbonation. If hoping for a bitter hop bomb look elsewhere but this is a delicious malt forward IPA.
