Bottle. Pours slightly hazy medium gold color, finger white head lasts, coating intricate lacing. Aroma is sweet pale grain, semi-ripe tropical fruit. Taste starts just like the nose, on the sweet fruity side, which is met by some pretty heavy pine and grapefruit peel hops mid-sip. Very nicely balanced. Finishes semi dry with a medium slick feel. I've had this one a few times now, and hopefully will get it again, good stuff.

16.9 oz bottle, bottled on 4/7/14. Pours clear golden yellow with a medium frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is piney hops with a little fruit and some stinky tar.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with a little fruit and a big piney, grassy, tarry harsh bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice IPA. Not my favorite flavor profile.

I love this beer for the fact that it is interesting and that the hops are Australian. In terms of taste it is different, and that also makes me love it. It is pretty balanced, and the 8% abv is also good to go. There is nothing crazy about this beer, but it carries a high quality swagger with the taste that is fun to drink.

500ml bottle (@ 7.6% ABV) - yay, they used the word 'complemented' correctly in the label's marketing blurb!

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden amber colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, rocky, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some stellar layered dripping paint swath lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.

It smells of muddled tropical fruit (maybe some underripe pineapple), musty and slightly dank pine resin, gritty and grainy caramel malt, orange and red grapefruit flesh, and further leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, some pineapple, guava, and generic melon exotic fruitiness, domestic citrus rind, and more leafy, earthy, and wet piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is average in its palate-coddling frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and mostly smooth, with a wee airy creaminess arising as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the malt and mixed fruitiness having a field day in their lingering glee.

Overall, this is a very pleasant and engaging IPA ode to those 'cast-outs' from England who found new purchase in the antipodean land of Australia, which I'm sure wasn't as enjoyable then as it seems to be now. At any rate, easy to drink, nice and hoppy, without much in the way of yer typical bitterness. Good, good stuff.

Bottle served cold into an imperial pint glass.

Outcast is a pale golden orange color with unusually good clarity for an imperial IPA. The head is thick at first but settles fairly fast leaving a little lace behind.

Aroma is fresh and full of bright citrus notes. Very hoppy but not overpowering.

Flavor is brilliantly hoppy with many layers and complexities. Citrus is most prevalent but there is also grassy, floral, and spice.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. Beautifully balanced and expertly made.

Overall a wonderful double IPA and certainly worth seeking out. I'd love to try some of Crux's other beers. Their labels are excellent too.

500ml bottle poured into snifter bottled on 12/1/15

A: nice amber clear color soapy head with decent retention

S: this smells funky almost like cheese with a slight underlying fruit smell

T: funky cheesy almost garlic oniony in flavor the fruit is there but it is underneath on this beer

M: medium feel about what expected from an IPA

O: Meh I think maybe fresher this beer would have been great but I do not think it is aging gracefully. As the beer opens up the cheese taste and smell dissipate but they are still there
