12.7 oz. Bottle
Bottled On: 1/26/2016

Almost 2 years on this bottle.

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice brownish/reddish color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy/quick one-finger off-white head, which leaves minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with some dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, raisins, plums). The taste is pretty nice, malty, yeasty, nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, raisins, plums). Full Body, ABV hidden pretty nicely, a nice little complex brew. Overall, out of the few I've had from Crux this is the best one.

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from the brewery in late August for $7.00. Bottled on 8/9/2016.

Beer poured mahogany with a very nice off white head that has some nice hang time.

Nose is dark fruits and Belgian yeast esters.

Taste is dark fruit dominated and candi sugar. Taste is somewhat sweet and dry.

Mouthfeel is medium to heavy bodied which is what i would not expect for the style.

Overall i found this brew to be very enjoyable. Definitely a notch under Unibroue but definitely worthy of a shot!

Poured into a Gavroche tulip. Pours a dark reddish amber with a half finger khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, dark stone fruit, moderately estery, a touch of alcohol. Flavor starts with sweet dark fruit, caramel malt, clove then develops an herbal bitterness with residual dark fruits and moderate boozy element. Medium bodied with peppery carbonation. The initial impression is very sweet, but the developing bitter herbal element tends to cover and complement the sweetness. A somewhat idiosyncratic take on a Belgian strong dark, but I rather enjoyed it. The finishing booziness is a bit of a negative, but there are plenty of strong flavors here to support it.

Poured from 500mL bottle into my Val-Dieu goblet.

Appearance: ruddy, tawny hue with a good effervescence and a moderate haze. Head poured a pretty thin layer of ivory foam, but despite that it's still a good looking beer.

Smell: rich and sweet raisin, date and tobacco aroma. There's a bit of dustiness and a whiff of strong alcohol (which I like) and a dash of biscuit (of which I'm not so fond). Mostly a very good aroma, though.

Taste: toasty and a little biscuity, like a Belgian-inspired altbier. There are good dark-fruit flavors, though, with more of that raisin and date character. Not bad at all.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a good creaminess that I rather like.

Overall: it's hard for me to *love* this beer, what with its biscuity qualities, but otherwise it has a lot going for it. The more I drink, the less the biscuit bothers me; I think as it warms the fruitiness comes out better; it's pretty good stuff. I could see being in the mood for this again.

Poured from bottle into a chalice
Appearance: pours a clear red with thin white head that quick fades to nothing.
Aroma: Raisins, plums, Bing cherries, slight spice
Taste: dark fruit is the dominant flavor, but it is rather subtle. Mild clove and pepper on the tail end. Caramel and rock candy sweetness. Faint alcohol heat
Mouthfeel: medium body, very light carbonation
Overall: mediocre BSDA, not something I will likely revisit
