Look- A pretty, dark amber color. Not much head, but I got a pour in a mini nonic glass, so that might be the reason.

Smell- A light smell. That Belgian yeast aroma is notable in the breathe out, though.

Taste- Ok. Belgian-y with a malty backbone. A bit of a bite at the end.

Feel- An unpleasant burn on the end. Probably from the high abv.

Overall, this is a rare miss for me from Crux. It says something that their miss is still over a three, though.

Pours like garnet stone (deep dark ruby). Little head that settles to NO bubbles. No lace as well.

Sweet and sour smell. Lots of berry, reminds me of a guerze.

Taste matches the smell--sweet and tart with a dark malt background. The finish is sour and lingers through the aftertaste slowly dissipating. Highly carbonated with a moderate body.

This tastes more like honey than any beer I've had that didn't claim to be brewed with honey. The dry finish is almost tannic in it's sudden takeover of the sensation in the mouth. The initial taste also reminds me of IHOP berry pancake syrup, starting out sweet and ending up bitter. There's that medicinal note at the finish. Stems and seeds.

The aromatics are very intriguing. Cedar and raisin pie. Even hints of cinnamon and allspice. The color is a dark copper with a brief flush of foam. The carbonation stays a little longer on the tongue as you sip. An interesting strong brew, From the 500 ml bottle purchased at New Seasons Market in Portland. Bottled on 02/17/15. This batch is 11% ABV.

500mL from Belmont Station.

A: Brown with red tints. Head rapidly forms into a bubbly crest and then recedes into nothingness. Decent legs.

N: Raisin, toffee, prune, bubble gum, clove, coriander, and a hint of banana. A little bit of smokiness. Lots of esters. Pretty good approximation of a Belgian, albeit not quite as smooth around the edges.

T: Biscuity, slightly bitter, and moderately sweet. A bit light on the flavor, but what flavors it does have blend together well.

M: Somewhat watery. A little bit sticky, and alcohol exhibits itself.

O: A much better beer than a number of Crux bottles I’ve opened. It lacks that deep complexity of its Belgian forbears as well as the luxurious mouthfeel, but I’d be willing to try this again.

Dark brown/ruby body with small, tight beige head. Aroma is true Belgian, dried fruit, molasses and oak barrel. taste is slightly tangy, some alcohol burn. Mouthfeel is sticky and weight is medium bordering on heavy. Good try at this style. Very close to a dubbel.

16.9oz : Teku

Clear, deep garnet colored body with a thin, bubbly light tan head.

Sweet, candi sugars upfront, some molasses, very faint Belgian yeast and dark fruit. Nice, but a bit subdued/one dimensional.

The taste is similar to the nose. Nothing offensive, and some good points, but really lacking in any complexity and fails to leave me with really wanting more.

Medium-thin body, mild foamy carbonation.

As stated above, nothing unpleasant, but also nothing particularly well done either and left me with no real desire to even finish the whole bottle.

L: Dark ruby red body, thin head that disappeared quickly.

S: Strong cherry candy nose, almost like red vines. Does not smell like a typical strong dark ale.

T: Cherry, malt, and a medicinal bitter aftertaste. Reminds me of cough syrup to be frank.

F: Slightly fizzy and smooth, not much else.

O: I took four sips, and down the drain it went. I most likely got a bad bottle.
