“Mega Boss” (adj): meaning ‘radical’ or ‘awesome’ or ‘super duper’

3 years after we opened in 2012, we really think this whole IPA thing might be taking off…

So we bring you “MegaBoss IPA”, our American IPA loaded with 8 different hop varieties, showcasing some of our favorite IPA things: a rich pineapple & tropical fruit aroma, with a flavor profile that very much follows that aromatic start, concluding with a lemon & herbal hop finish.

At 7.0% ABV, it’s incredibly smooth & easy-drinking, with a bitterness that never overpowers the wonderful flavors from the many hops. An IPA to be enjoyed over & over again.

draught
Cloudy, medium yellow gold, which looks quite lemony, in the sunlight. A rather spiced, lemon peel with the juice, a hint of light toast malt, for the aroma. A very lightly malted lemon peel flavor, without a big bite. Medium bodied, with a bit of a tang, with a lemon peel finish, in a good way.
Enjoyed this at the nearby Lakeview House restaurant. Make a reservation, if you go there.

Color is copper as most all. Head is white and fades to a glass gripping ring fairly quickly, leaving decent lacing. Nose is very floral. Taste is citrus and piney. Follow through is smooth, not too much bitterness on the backend. ABV is not evident at all.

A solid American IPA you can see through.
Not exactly in the left coast style but leaning that way.
Full malt profile with sharp, metallic hop bite.
In my experience ( 20+ pints over the years at locals) over carbonated and thin in body with no unique or memorable character or characteristics.
If it looks like it might be the best thing on tap in the lower Hudson Valley, it just might be.

Poured into a belgian snulip style glass.

L: 3.5. Murky yellowish. Evident carbonation. Lingering head.
S: 4. Very fruity but with a nice resinous backtone.
T: 4.25 Starts out fruity. Tropical and citrusy. Finishes bitter with a malty edge.
F: 3.75 Medium mouthfeel. Bitter and slow going. Enjoy, do not crush,
O: 4. Solid IPA out of Newburgh, recommended for those who prefer West Coast style.

And now, I am finishing my embarkation on yet CANother brewery horizontal as a part of The CANQuest (tm)! It's all very exciting.

From the CAN: "Bright & Floral"; "MegaBoss India Pale Ale[:] Mega Boss” (adj): meaning ‘radical’ or ‘awesome’ or ‘super duper’, which is what we think of our American IPA. The skillful blending of 'New-Age' hop varieties produces a beautiful floral aroma and rich flavor notes of both citrus and tropical fruits, light in body, clean in flavor and crisp in character, MegaBoss IPA is a beer drinker's hoppy paradise."; "Drink Fresh[,] Store Cold".

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug since a) it was getting late & I did not want to risk a mess & b) it was not a usual Boss in that it was a standard AIPA. I was happy to see it form just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with decent retention. Color was a hazy, NOT cloudy, Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose was very tropical, running the gamut of the usual suspects. Fair dinkum, as long as the taste has some of the advertised citrusiness. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but definitely solid in the mouth. Mmm, the taste was a welcome break from the previous Bosses! Here, the bitterness of the citrusy hops really stood out, backed up by the tropical fruit hops and an unobtrusive malt presence. Finally! I will grant you that palate fatigue was beginning to set in, but this was more like it. Grapefruit & lemon led the way, trailed by pineapple/guava/mango, but with the latter in a distant position. This was the way that modern AIPAs should be - less reliant on tropical while still giving them a ChANce. Finish was semi-dry to dry, lacking the forceful bitterness of the style. YMMV.

Look: Slightly cloudy yellow, billowing carbonation. Large, creamy white head.
Smell: Grapefruit, pine, mango, spicy herbs. Some malt sweetness in the background. Really nice.
Taste: Sweet mango, grapefruit, lemon, and malt. Hints of other tropical fruits, maybe some banana. Light herbal bitterness.
Feel: Medium-bodied, crisp, slightly prickly carbonation.
Overall: A really nice, light, citrusy-tropical IPA. This is right up my alley.
