Notes / Commercial Description:
We do love all things sessionable here in Newburgh… but, there’s a time & a place for all beers, including our new Belgian Strong Ale. Medium bodied & amber in color, the beer boasts lovely flavors & aromas produced by the Belgian Candy Sugar. The lingering finish is that of both spice & earthy qualities from our Belgian Ale Yeast. The formidable 10.2% ABV leaves you with a delightful sugary sweetness and warmth.
We call it “Sterk Aal van Hoodie”, which is Flemish for “Strong Ale of Hoodie”. And who is Hoodie, you might ask? Why, she’s our incredibly strong, utterly fearless, cunning and quick brewery cat. We honor Hoodie's fearless determination in the face of mouse danger by naming our Strong Ale after her. We salute you, Hoodie.

Sample from the brewery.

LOOK: Clear copper hue, bubbly, good amount of lacing

SMELL: Spicy, toasted grain, gummy, mildly phenolic, green peppercorn, honey, figs

TASTE: Creamy, slick, medium bodied, spicy, warming, malty, toasty, medicinal phenols, herbal hop, mild bitterness, salty, orange peel, semi-dry finish

Well balanced, just enough warmth without getting hot. Perhaps not as dry and crisp as I like but it still is a tasty brew. Ends up being closer to more of a pale quad.

A: Very much the color of a BPA. Strong copper hue tending toward the dark and golden orange. Finger and half of light tan semi-rocky head. Tons of classic 'Belgian lacing.'

S: Green spices, sweet floral, and mild fruit; just a hint of tobacco peppered in, hidden well by honeysuckle, orange, and candied fruit. Good clean base malt, but rye and barley add some spice notes as well.

M: First sip is smooth and light-medium body. Any subsequent sip in quick succession will yield a balmier feel with some noticeable alcohol. Drinks more like a higher ABV Belgian in this regard.

T: Absolutely delicious malt profile of toasted rye and barley; hazelnut. Peppery, herbaceous, phenolic, herbal, fruity. Pear and a thin slice of orange tang gives a reservedly dry finish. Great malt quality, typical sweetness of candi sugar, minimal herbal bitterness, and too easy of a drinker.
