Amber color IPA with big malt flavor. Decent beer but a little more malt than I prefer in my IPA.

Sampling at cellar temp poured into a pint glass. The beer is a clear copper hue with minimal eggshell white head foaming up and fading to a thin surface layer with minor edging. Aroma is some caramel and a bit of pine hops and maybe some grass too. Not overpowering nose of hops, maybe an actual IPA and not just a hop bomb. First sip reveals an average body with silky smooth texture and very fine tingling carbonation that tickles across my palate with each sip.
Flavor is well balanced with some caramel and sweetness on the tip of my palate that rolls to earthy and grassy bitter, dry hops after each swallow. Still not overpowering flavor but a lingering vegetal hop profile sits in my mouth. Definitely dries on each swallow.
No hint of the ABV on this beer and the beer is VERY easy to drink as I am almost done with my pint before finishing these notes.
Well crafted and straightforward IPA that wont satiate a hop cravers need, but still is more than a pale ale and features hops without palate death.

Well done beer that I would try again.

DATE REVIEWED: August 7, 2014... GLASSWARE: Hop Devil nonick... OCCASION: enjoying a nice haul from our State College weekend...APPEARANCE: clear, red amber body that streams a steady effervescence; dirty white head settles from a solid finger to a creamy resilience flaring with sunbursts of lacing--great to look at... AROMA: brilliant botanical array of lilac, carnations and grass; secondary scents of spices such as allspice and nutmeg--invitingly complex... PALATE: mellow, medium-bodied and drinkably relaxed; a thin yet consistent aftertaste holds to the back of the throat; creamy, if anything... TASTE: a solidly established pale ale, though not big enough for the India moniker--well-rounded, perhaps, by the soft, sweet malts that balance every sip; the malts--creamy, buttery--escort blunted hops along the journey, with a sessionable invitation... OVERALL: although a pleasant sipping beer, I find it tough to call this IPA anything beyond above average, as so many breweries are setting thee bar so high in this style...still, tough to slam a beer that is aesthetically pleasing and delivers on its promise with enough balance to convince--albeit temporarily--that the overhopped IPA is not the way to go ....

Deep copper, honey golden, clear

Not much in the way of aroma. Faint grassy hops and some bready malt.

Sweet caramel malt up front, sugary. Earthy hops, not prevalent. Some bitterness peeks thru towards the end if the pint.

Light watery body. Medium carb.

Malt forward for an IPA. Falls short in aroma and mouthfeel and hop presence overwhelmed by the sweetness. Off-balanced the opposite way of how I would prefer an IPA. More of an APA and to that point, it is well crafted. Would have again but wouldn't seek out.
