American red ale. Very malty and crisp. It has all the fun without the AMD (Acid Mine Drainage)! Brewed with Nugget hops for the bittering and late hopped with Liberty.

12oz can into a pint glass. NO freshness dating.
Great looking beer. Crystal clear reddish amber body with a decent off white head. This shrinks to a ring and covering, leaving spidery lacing.
Caramel malt aroma.
On tasting, fairly sweet, and strongly malty.
Mouth medium, finish a strong caramel malt which leaves a little sour bitterness behind.
Overall, the finish could be cleaner, but other than that, a decent enough offering.

Poured into a 16 oz Pilsner glass.
I had previously had this on tap at Otto's Pub and had enjoyed it. Picked up a 6 pack at the State College Wegman's on next trip for the Homecoming Purdue game.
LOOK: Good looking Red Ale Lager with a tan head that has better than average retention.
AROMA: Ripened dark fruits, Caramel malts are most noticeable.
TASTE: Sweet, fruity still get some caramel. The sweet caramel is a bit over the top.
The fresh draft, at the restaurant was better, but this was still a most agreeable beer.

Otto's Pub and Brewery "Red Mo"
22 fl. oz. brown glass bottle without freshness dating
$2.61 @ Pletcher's Beer Distributor, State College, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: American red ale. No alcohol content listed on the label, let's see what their website says... 5.0%. It's clear with a ruby and mahogany colored body beneath a finger-thick head of creamy khaki colored foam. The aroma is limited but reveals some lightly toasty and caramelish malt with a touch of yeasty fruitiness and some herbal and woody hops. The flavor follows and this is what Otto's does best: it's a simple basic ale that's nicely balanced, not overdone or underdone, and remarkably easy to drink. It's gently caramelish and toasty - they're really well infused - and just lightly fruity to the point that I can't really even make it out, I'd say apple and soft berry, and supported by a lightly spicy, herbal, and grassy hoppiness and firm bitterness. It's really well rounded and balanced, and at the same time I'm going to guess it's not really well rated because it's not bigger and brighter. But could it be bigger and brighter? Well yes, but that doesn't mean it's not good as it is. It's pretty much right on for an American Amber and this would be generally what I'd expect except that it's so nicely balanced and rounded and polished. Really nicely done. Semi-dry in the finish but not at all sweet or cloying. Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation that leaves it delicately bristling and then gently smooth across the palate.

Poured into a narrow pint glass: color is amber, head is big, at least 1.5 inch thick, light tan in color.
Smell is fruity, light toast, hints of caramel.
Taste is blend of fruity hops, fruity fermentation notes and lingering caramel.
Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, light bitterness, light sweetness.
Overall, a good amber ale, a little different in the flavor profile, but good fermentation leads to a dryer amber than many.

brownish red color, one finger head. Taste is somewhat "blank". Lacking much flavor but there is some sweetness and a little blend of bitterness. Somewhat watery and thin with average carb. easy to drink but very little in the flavor dept.
