Appearance: light red in color, 1/3 inch head, clear, high carbonation

Smell: light toasted malt, caramel, light wood

Taste: sweet caramel, light woody flavor. toasted malt

Mouthfeel: light bodied, high carbonation, sweet start with a slightly bitter end

Overall: An above average nice and sweet beer. Nothing mind blowing, but very well executed. I would pick this up again.

ANOTHER prize for my fantasy excellence courtesy of Ryan...22 oz. bottle... dark brown body with oddly carbonated head...head is white and thin and flattens quickly...hops flourish early, bright and sprucey...medium-to-full bodied and effervescent--strong around the tongue and vibrant, almost demanding...a crisp, malty presence--no frills, full-on balance of the bitter and the sweet...Otto's continues to deliver, after having my school twained by the Jolly Roger and my tongue singed by the Double D...a memorable and enjoyable way to welcome March--like the month, lion and lamb in one...rating would be higher if the opening and closing experiences matched

Otto's- Red Mo Ale

On tap at Capone's- Norristown, PA

A- deep burgandy red with a thick foamy heavy lacing head.
S- Sweet candi sugar caramel malt.
T- Sweet cherry licorice/ cramel malt. Toasty grains slightly appear in the end.
M- Sweet malt up front and center with a creamy sweet dry finish.

Overall- Very tasty, light, & sessionable. My first from Otto's and quite good!

Bomber bought at the brewpub. Pours a good creamy caramel coloured head on a beige body. Appropriate carbonation. C-type hop smell dominates, its Liberty and Northern. Easy drinking, its a good balance with a respectable hop presence and a bit of toasted malt.

A - amber with a thin, off white head that has good retention

S - toasted malts, some faint caramel, fruity aroma

T - toasted malt, fruit, apple, caramel, mild bitter finish

M - medium bodied, smooth crisp

This is a nice though simple amber ale. The toasted malt seems to be the most dominant flavor with some esters added for good measure. The isn't much of a hop presence save for a slight, balanced, bitter finish. Overall, this is a nice, simple, refreshing amber ale that is easily sessionable.

On tap at the brewpub - Oct 2, 2007. Aroma is a piquant, rich sweet grain, light honey, browned toasted and almond liqueur. Gentle, nuanced and suave. Pours a deep mahogany amber, ruddied in florid delight. Rim of clay-colored head. Flavor is a rich, delicate malt, dappled with toothy grains, fresh bread, savory herbs and a full bouquet of ranging tree boughs. Hops seem to back up and look inwardly at this beer, great balance especially considering the really dry, beautifully attenuated finish with delectable freshness and tingling mineral qualities. Yeast settles into the beer and gives an undertone of elegance. All around nice. One of those expertly crafted recipes, brewed to perfection and exhibiting all its glory in a style that’s so unoriginal that good work really stands out.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a pretty amber color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, some caramel, a bit of an unusual, mustiness. Taste is hoppy, bitter, some grains, none of the caramel in the smell. Kind of mild, dry at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an ok beer, but nothing special.

A pint glass served from a firkin on Firkin Friday.

A: The ale has a dark amber brown color, touched by hints of red copper. The hand pump gave the ale a nice thick head that clung precariously to the glass as it was consumed.

S: The nose is full of caramel and bready biscuit notes. The firken has managed to strengthen and concentrate the malt profile while pulling a little more bitterness out of the hops.

T: The amber ale has taken on a new life here. The maltiness is significantly increased, tinged with what could almost be a ringwood flavor. The decreased carbonation cuts down on the clean mouthfeel but does allow the malts to sit longer on the palate. The hop bitterness has not disappeared but it does take a while to fully come through. By the third or so sip, the bitterness is evident beneath the malts.

M: The mouthfeel is relaxed with a strong focus on the malt side. The firkin has done wonders for the taste.

D: In my review of the bottle (see below), I noted that this would be good on cask. My prescience was correct, this is a great session ale that does much better when served alive.

Nice amber color and big head, but it dies kinda quickly. Clean smell, bready, maybe a little Saaz hops... Taste is slightly sweet, caramel, a little like apple juice, but with a dry finish. A hint of bitter lemon on the finish. Very drinkable - smooth mouthfeel, carbonation keeps it interesting.

Tasting notes from 1-13-11
Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub.

A - Medium amber colour with one finger of white head.

S - Toffee, caramel. Slight bitterness.

T - Sweet with a slight hop bite. Caramel and toffee are the predominant flavours.

M - Light body. Moderate carbonation.

Been a challenge lately to get through anything new, but I decided to let my family have a crack at a few things this weekend and pulled a sample off of each. Part of the " Random BBQ Event" at my in laws on 07/19/2009.
Appearance - Nice light brown, reddish tinted and quite nice looking. Small head of tan comes up quick but it never really did fade away. Quite nice I have to say with a good lacing profile.
Smell - Lots of malt here, but it was a bit light overall. Bready, caramel and a light herbal note came together well but I had to hunt for it. If it could have been a little bit stronger it would have been great.
Taste - Nice even flavor. Lots of caramel and bready malts up front that slowly fades and come up with a nice touch of light piney hops in the finish. Nothing really out of bounds here and the overall profile was pretty tight, it just did not blow me away.
Feel - Night medium body, great carbonation left it never flat and the overall coating of the tongue was very well placed.
Drinkability - Easily drinkable if not session able there was nothing holding me back from enjoying a few more glasses for sure.
Overall - Very solid, not the best but I have a hard time not saying it was good. I would give it another go round without much hesitation.

The aroma is fruity with a bit of apple and a bit of herbal essence (lavender?). Some maltiness. A caramel red-brown beer, clear - with off-white thick lacing foamy head. Medium carbonation with a medium watery body. Has a mild sweetness to start with a nice balance of bitterness. Fruity character with a mild nutty finish. Very tasty and clean. Overall has nice balance of hops/malts with clean crisp bitterness though could be a bit smoother.

Appears a red toned amber with a small, off white head that slowly fades out into a mild cap. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Lively CO2 rises to the top.
Smell is of caramel, marzapan, toffee, toasted nuts, and citrusy hops.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a nice blend of the sugary caramel, and citrusy notes.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a decent presence of CO2, and nice balance between sugar and bitterness.

A - A nice amber brown, clear in color with a half inch of opaque colored head. Lacing is excellent.

S - Not very hopped but works, mostly caramel, biscuit and toasted malts.

T - Actually quite nice the sweetness and level of hops match well leaving a caramel like taste on the palate then the biscuit malts kick in preventing it from being too sweet. Almond in the finish as well.

M - Light to medium easy drinking.

Overall a very tasty Red ale and gives me faith in this brewery to produce good beers. Good thing since I have a pale ale and a DIPA from them.
