Served on hand pump in a pint glass

Appearance – Served a hazy orange color with a one half finger just off white head. The head fades very rapidly leaving a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma is mainly of a rye and bready nature mixed with grapefruit hop. Lingering with these aromas is a very light tangerine and a small amount of floral hop and almost spicy aroma.

Taste – The flavor begins mainly of a bready and moderate rye flavor. These more malty flavors create a base for the brew and remain relatively constant throughout the taste. Upfront the taste is rather dry with a moderate grapefruit hop taste at the start. As the flavor advances the grapefruit hop grows stronger in nature and is joined by a lighter tangerine flavor that brings a light sweetness to the beer. The grapefruit hop maximizes more toward the middle of the taste and remains strong till the end. The tangerine fades a bit however and is replaced by a caramel sweetness more toward the end. Along with the transitions of the lighter sweet flavors, a pine hop and lightly spiced flavor comes to the tongue at the end of the taste, with the combination of flavors leaving a bready and rather bitter grapefruit hop flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level (as would be expected for a hand pump brew) that is a bit on the lower side. The thicker body and lower carbonation suit the hoppier flavor as well as rye quite nicely really giving those flavors a chance to be appropriately sensed by the tongue.

Overall – A pretty nice Rye PA. A little dry and quite grapefruit hop heavy (possibly a bit more pine or earth would helped level it a bit more) but rather flavorful and quite nicely drinkable. Not bad and one to try if you have the chance.
