Serving glass: Poured from bottle into clear, plastic cup (I was on a boat on Lake Minnetonka).

Appearance: Rich gold with decent white head. A little darker than expected for the style but good looking overall.

Smell: Bread, hay, some spicy and citrus notes.

Taste: Bread and hay-like backbone with some fruitiness. Light spice and citrus notes on the finish.

Feel: Crisp and dry but the body is fuller than it should be and the carbonation is a little lower. So it isn't quite as refreshing at the style can be.

Overall: Decent Blonde but doesn't stand out for me.

Starts with a big grainy nose with some grainy malt - the kind of grain smell you get when a base malt is just starting to dry in a kiln. It pours gold with a very slight haze under a very thin film of as head. The palate starts with big grain flavors, a hint of caramel sweetness, white bread and a touch of tartness from both the grain and the carbonation. There are hints of fruit in the background. It’s lively, medium to a little less on the body and a dash of creaminess that doesn’t quite overcome the bite from the carbonation.

Had an imperial pint with lunch (scrambled eggs w/ shrimp and kim chi) at Tilia. It's a clean, toasty blonde with a hint of citrus hops. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it's a clean and tasty beer with enough flavor to compliment a meal but still go down easy on a hot day. I liked that the bready, toasted, barley stood out as opposed to being a bland, sweet note in a boring beer, like so many blondes. Give it a try.

(Re-review 4/23/17, original score 3.29)

This beer pours a hazy dark yellow color. The head is a half inch in height, and recedes quickly into nothing. The aroma has some light caramel, and a trace of diacetyl. The taste is much the same. The diacetyl doesn't dominate the beer, but there is so little else going on that it is prominent. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with slightly lower carbonation than I like to see in a Blonde Ale. Overall, this is both a bad example of a Blonde Ale, and a bad beer in general. I will not drink this again.

Tasted 14 July 2014.

Pours clear, medium orangey amber. One finger of off-white head, good retention, okay lacing.

Smell is quite nice. Clean, warm, and lightly fruity. Crisp apples, sitting on a platform of warm grains.

Taste is excellent as well. Again, it's clean, and it's crisp and flavorful in just the ways I want from a relatively light beer. Hard to pick out flavors, as the subtleties blend together so well. Tips just a shade bitter late, adding some vibrancy. Very tasty stuff.

The feel is just like the rest of the beer - a stellar balance of full and light. Carbonation is spot on - a touch below medium. Works really well with the rest of the beer.

This is a really, really good blond ale. It proves that a beer doesn't need to blast you with flavor to be really enjoyable. It's an excellent combination of refreshment and mild and subtle flavors. I'm impressed.

A- Medium straw, a bit darker than your average blonde ale. Two finger white head falls to a spider web. Fair amount of lacing.
S- Good aroma. Bready, a touch of grass. Faint hint of citrus.
T- A good profile here. Bread crust, grass, a bit doughy, and some earthy. Just a hint of herb and citrus.
M- About standard body for a blonde, maybe a bit fuller. Carbonation is on the high end, but acceptable.
O- I'm not normally a blonde ale fan, as they tend to revert toward a lack of complexity, but this one has a good flavor profile. Easy drinking and worth a try.
