Malt lovers rejoice! This beer has a strong malt backbone, sweet caramel finish and low bitterness. Arrowhead Red has slight fruitiness and hints of roasted barley which make it a great beer for the transition from winter to spring.

Pours a robust, dark amber. About a quarter to an inch's worth of head, overall looks very nice. Smells equal parts malt and hop, which is followed up by the taste, complimented by biscuit, but also with a relatively unsavory socky finish that--unusually enough--is something that I attribute to paler ales than an amber, which was jarring. The mouthfeel is just right; coating the mouth fully, but not so much for it to become constraining. It's a good drinking beer. It hits a lot of notes but the taste just isn't completely there.

-dark red-amber can pour with a fine tan cap. The aroma is malty with some orange and pine. The flavor is similar, mild but pleasant with toasted malt notes. The finish is dry and a bit bitter.

Great malt backbone in this mellow red ale from the east end. This is very drinkable but has minimal personality. Still, this is a very serviceable Irish red from LI's exploding local scene.

Montauk Arrowhead Red Ale purchased in December, 2018, was cooled to about 55F and poured from a can into a simple pint glass. The deep amber body is topped by a modest off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly. It has a faint malty aroma. The roasted malt flavor is nicely quenching. The hop character comes out in the noticeable, but mild, bitter aftertaste. This is a pleasant beer that is contract-brewed for Montauk.
After another six pack or so of this beer, I've decided that Driftwood is a better beer, and have adjusted this rating downward

Pours a clear dark amber color with a thumbnail length creamy head. The head displays good retention.
The aroma emits a toffee and caramel like sweetness, buttery, biscuity and toasted malts. There is also a gentle wisp of citrus peel.
Clean malt forward taste with a moderate sweetness. Flavors of bready and biscuity malts with a light toffee character. Nice balance in the middle palate, featuring a mild hops spice. Light citrus finish that is semi dry.
Medium bodied, gently carbonated and smooth. Malt forward but finely balanced with a soft and clean bitterness. I liked this beer.

On Tap at Primetime. Pours red with white head. Aroma is of herbal hops, bready malt and ripe fruit. Body is medium and smooth. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is long and dry. Tasty brew.

12 oz can, best before dating on the bottom, but I can make no sense of it
Pours a reddish ruby darker amber, typical khaki cap, leaving a thicker film, and moderate strands of fine lacing.
Malted up nose, with some honey, and whole wheat.
Malty brew, with more whole wheat coming to mind, also some vanilla, n honey. Medium mouthfeel and the carbonation seems pretty typical, to perhaps a bit on the flat side...all in all nothing very special going on here...middle of the road malty red ale

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a ruddy burnt dark orange almost amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that held and faded at a good pace. Some stringy lace. The aroma had a nice blend of roasted nuttiness, nice and clean caramel maltiness, and then a touch of some grassy hops for balance. The flavor leans initially towards the sweetness of the malts but tried to bring in the hops somewhat in a bitter fashion but honestly, they stay more in the background. Nicely blended aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Good carbonation and the ABV felt fine. Overall, one of the better offerings by this brewery. I could come back to this.

Brief impressions from a can. 6 packs run $10.99 in NYC.
APPEARANCE: ~8cm worth of head lasts ~5-7 minutes. Body colour is an amber-copper. Translucent and transparent, but dull and uninviting.
AROMA: Fruity but a bit toasty. Pale malts, amber malts, caramel.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Has a toasty malt backbone which lends it some dryness in the third act and on the finish, but otherwise it's smooth, wet, medium-bodied, and refreshing throughout. More fruity than most red ales I've tried. Malt bill is amber, pale, and caramel.
Sweet but not sticky, with the toastiness reigning it in and keeping it pretty well balanced. Depth of flavour could be better but it's competent work.
OVERALL: Drinkable enjoyable fare, but not a terrific red ale. More toastiness, some roasted barley, and less fruitiness would be a good start, but this just doesn't have the depth or complexity of flavour needed to really compete with the best expressions of the style. Decent, but not impressive.
