Session India Pale AleSession India Pale Ale
Notes: We used three varieties of hops, and also dry hopped the beer for seven days after fermentation to give it a nice spicy, citrusy aroma. The Montauk Session can keeps the nautical flag theme and simple, clean design.

12oz can

Not usually a fan of the style, but we'll see how this goes.

Pours about a finger of white head into a wine glass. Somewhat soapy, I can hear it fizzing. Average retention. Initial lacing looks ok. Body is a dark burnt orange. Looks ok.

Nose is mostly a light bready malt aroma. The faintest notes of pine and citrus. Smells ok.

Flavor is mostly the same. Some light malts and a little bread. Some sweetness. Just a touch of pine. A little perfumey. Not much to write home about, but I guess that's the idea. It is clean and tastes fine, nothing wrong with that. Drinks more like a blonde or something, but again, I guess that's kinda the idea.

Mouthfeel is nice. Carbonation is about medium. Body is light ish, but not paper thin by any means. Bitterness is low, but noticeable. A little sweetness, but honestly probably on the drier side.

Drinkability is high, as it should be.

Appearance turned out sub par, no lacing.

Overall a nice enough beer. Clean and easy drinking. Not very IPA like, but with the sessions that isn't unheard of.

Pours a nice, slightly hazy gold with sa somewhat thin head that dissipates quickly. Fairly light flavor that was a little Bitter but not overly hoppy. A decent summer type IPA but just OK in my opinion. A little more body would be preferable.

This is a disappointing brew to follow their Wave Chaser with. Lacking much character. A foamy head gives was to lackluster carbonation and faint pine citrus nose. Some tropical fruit notes but again, light on that. Maybe it's time to just give up on Session ales?

Decanted from a tap into a conical pint glass at the Modern Diner in Aquabogue, NY.
A: Pours a slightly hazy, dark straw color with minimal head.  Color a bit too brown. Low retention and limited Belgian lacing.
S: Very limited bread and pine notes.
T: Very limited flavor, light malt/bread; only slightly bitter without a crisp finish.
M: Light bodied, very little effervescence.
O: Frankly disappointing: this tastes more like a second or third tier, commercial lager than anything that could call itself an APA or IPA. Surprised by the fairly solid ratings; not consistent with my experience.

A- Can to a glass with a somewhat hazy golden body and a massive foamy white head. The cap is thick and peaks about two inches high with very good retention. After the head falls down a massive island remains and a belt at the edges coats the glass in massive pillows of lacing.

S- Hops make up most of an aroma that comes in with light-medium strength. Floral, grapefruit, mango and spicy hops followed up by pale barley, cereal, cracker and bread hints.

T- On the mild side of the hop strength spectrum even for a session brew. The hop profile is a mix of spicy, herbal, floral, grapefruit citrus and earthy hops. The smallest hint of sweet stone fruits as well. A medium bitterness as well as hints of cereal grains, pale fruit like pear, white grape and yeast bread. Seems like Cascade might be in here, somewhat reminscent of SNPA on the whole without the strength of malts.

MF- Very high amount of carbonation in what is a light but not thin body. The creamy and foamy texture prevents it from straying into watery territory and on the whole it is clean and crisp. Lingering medium hop bitterness in the finish.

One could look at this beer and find that it really lacks a focal point flavor or something that really shines on the palate but at the same time the flavor profile as a whole is pleasant. This brew is crisp, clean and provides a balanced hop bite with floral, grapefruit and herbal notes shining. The body is key here; it is light but has plenty of carbonation and texture to carry the flavors and prevent that dreaded thin experience. Not your 2017 IPA flavor profile but a well brewed session beer indeed.

03/02/17 brief initial impression:

Decent pale ale (let's dispense with the session IPA marketing nonsense). Slightly tropically fruity hop bend. Pale malts. Floral hops. Balance isn't quite dialed in, but it's passable.

Drinkable enjoyable fare for what it is, but it drinks a little warmer than it should at its scant 4.90% ABV and its overcarbonation does bring it down. Not a beer I'd buy another sixer of at $8.99 USD, let alone its current $10.99 pricetag (plus deposit and tax). Pleasant and pedestrian, but not a beer that will impress the discerning drinker.

L - light orange, slight haze, thin white head

S - mostly malt with honey/floral

T - very mild, some pleasant apple/pear, a hint of that plastic smell like a new bouncy ball or something

F - fairly thin with fairly high carbonation

O - They should market this as a session ale, not emphasizing the "american" part which tends to imply strong fruity hops, much less claim it's a type of IPA, but naming aside, no real faults

Another beer courtesy of the creator of the canquest, woodychandler. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, some floral notes. Taste is citrus, herbal, very light malts, easy drinking. Feels medium/light bodied in the mouth and overall is a refreshing and decent beer.

Pours a cloudy Amber color with minimal head. Aroma is slight hops, citrus and floral notes. Tastes just as it smells with the addition of some spice notes. Lightly carbonated, smooth mouth feel. Drinkable but also forgetable.

Pedestrian beer. If there's nothing else on the shelf, grab it. Light hop smell. Not overly intense, faint citrus taste. Easy to drink but not memorable.

Nice session IPA. So balanced and laid back.

A: Appears coppery, hazy amber. Poured a half finger off white head that died down but left a short film covering the surface, a bit of lace, and a collar around the edge of the glass.

S: Abundant for a session IPA, chunky and balanced, with aromas of floral and spicy hops and notes of citrus.

T: Follows the smell, starts with flavors of floral and spicy hops— like a German Pilsener—and opens up further with citrus and caramel malts. Above all balanced, drinkable, with light finish of bitterness.
M: Medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a clean amount of bitterness. Makes you want another.
O: Great session IPA if you like noble hops; as another reviewer wrote "a hybrid between a pilsner and IPA," making it easy to drink. And ask for another.

A: The beer is very hazy amber yellow in color—too hazy to see any visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that died down but consistently left a short head covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of floral and spicy hops are present in the nose along with notes of citrus.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste starts out with flavors of floral and spicy hops—akin to a German Pilsener—and picks up notes of citrus and some caramel malts. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of bitterness.
O: This is a nice session IPA if you like noble hops; it seems more like a hybrid between a pilsener and an IPA. Nonetheless, it is easy to drink.

12 oz can

Pours cloudy lighter near golden amber. Frothy near one inch head, that stays well. Leaves minor thicker strands of lace.

Pungent 420 friendly nose. Mild cat piss, grapefruit, pineapple, herbs, pine...basically smells like a bag of fresh and spicy....

More of the same on the palate, spicy, herbal, citric, tropical fruity goodness.

Quality, flavorful, hopped up and fruity session IPA.

Pours out a light golden color with hazy clarity. A subtle nose of hops, grass, and pine.

Light, hoppy, and crisp start with a decent mouth feel. Not watery at all. Subtle notes of resin, pine, and grasses continue over from the nose. I'm really impressed with the brews body at 4.9%.

Overall I found it to be one of the better session ipa's that I've had to date.

Pours hazy yellow gold color with a foamy 2 finger snow white head that was full of bubbles, that faded slowly and left very good spotty lacing.

Smells of light citrus hops, grapefruit, lemon zest, malt and crackers. Very light and even weak overall nose, that's nice but just timid.

Tastes of floral hops, grapefruit, biscuit, toasted malt, grainy crackers, lemon and mild citrus hops. Balance is about even with just as much malt and hops, and a mild bitterness that is on the sweet side with some light fruity notes.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp and zesty, with a light body, a grainy finish that's lightly bitter but pretty clean. Decent session beer, but the flavor comes up short as an IPA.

Pours a hazy golden straw color with a slight honey hue. The white head is pillowy and slowly settles into a fluffy cap.

The aroma is of a light grapefruit hop. A bit floral. Not a very strong aroma but its pleasant.

The taste is of a dry grapefruit hop, again not very strong. Not much from the malt. Not overly exciting but no off flavors.

The feel is light and crisp. Ever so slight bitterness from the hops. Drinks very well and would be a great summer time ale. Perhaps a shade too light.

Founders All Day IPA is still the benchmark for the style. This beer is light and very drinkable but it doesn't have too much flavor.

Found in Cans at Stop and Shop and Little Neck 7 -11.
Like the younger cooler brother of that one from the Mt's not in Nevada.
True to it's Name this is and enjoyable, easy drinking, flav-o-ful adult beverage.

The aroma present but not overpowering with bready yeasty, and slightly floral in the mix.
Tasted great with out the overbite of many i.p.a.s. Not overly carbonated and a crowd pleaser for the Game.
Montauk did this right.
