Took a day trip down to Montauk and popped into the aptly named Montauk Brewery. I came as I was left with a six pack, a sign and a glass… whoops. Anywho, the brew house is a great spot, fun atmosphere, I just wish I had more time to spend there. I ended up grabbing a can at lunch down the road at a sweet roofdeck spot. A wonderfully refreshing beverage after walking around the town in obscene humidity. A solid old school style IPA. Predominantly pine notes with hints of citrus. After sweltering temperatures and lots of sweating, the 6.4% ABV was very prevalent. A real good sipping beer to watch boats go by and take in the scenery.

Pours a very slightly cloudy amber with a one inch white head that leaves rings of lacing. Smell is rather mild with notes of citrus, malt and pine. Drinks like a session ale not 6.4%. Predominantly mild citrus flavors, malt, pine and a hint of earthy notes. Light bodied, well carbonated, clean and crisp, very easy drinking beer

A sharp golden color on the pour. Moderate carbonation, hazy clarity, and a fluffy white head. Hops and malt on the nose. The drinking starts with stringent citrus hops upfront with a semi bitter flow and finish. The hops are a tad muted and have a lot of citrus/sugary flavors. I mostly get grapes, grapefruit, and lemon. Subtle bitter pine seems to hit on the finish as well. The mouth feel is on the light-moderate side and drinks refreshingly enough.

Overall, it's really just average at best. I can handle drinking it but I am in no way in love with it and would not seek it out.

Slightly hazy look, very light gold colored. Nose is citrus, some malt sweetness. However there is an off-putting smell I cannot pinpoint. Rotten herbal dankness?? Taste is faint notes of lemon, cracker, white bread, maybe some grapefruit. I'm getting none of the dankness I got from the aroma. Mouthfeel is light to medium trending more on the creamy side. There is some hop bitterness but not too much. All the flavors, although muted, seem to balance each other out. This drinks more like a summer pale ale. I also detect some salt flavors much like a Gose. But it's not overpowering. A good thirst quencher you can knock back with its relatively easy drinkability. I don't think I would buy again.

Had a couple of these on tap at Jake's Dilemma in NYC. Nice cloudy amber hue with decent head and ample lacing. Taste is complex but smooth -- hops, malts and fruit favors blend together. A good one!

This is a mild pale ale that is smooth to day drink and pound back. I was surprised by how subtle the beer at 6.4% ABV. This is a good beer for people just opening their palette to pale ales. Or if you're trying to get a girl drunk without her noticing.

Run of the mill IPA. But perfect balance of taste/bitterness. Pours light medium gold. Medium bodied. High carbonation. Citrus with some light bready malts.

Served on tap at Modern Snack Bar in Aquabogue, NY, into a conical pint glass.
A: Pours a cloudy, dark golden color with no more than half inch, white head formation with rim retention but rings of foamy lacing.
S: Aromas of lime, grapefruit, mango, and light pine mix initially with an orangy finish.
T: Palate flavors largely favor the nose although more peach at the end. Slightly peppery bitterness is light with a clean, refreshing finish.
M: Light to medium bodied with strong persistent carbonation.
O: Really enjoyable. A light, fruity IPA for summer.

Picked up a sixer to help stave off this heat wave currently being absorbed on the east coast. Big pine and citrus notes overwhelm the basic biscuit malts. Salty and spicy notes follow he aftertase. Dry in body and texture. Not a terribly imaginative American IPA but it does what it sets out to do pretty well. Very respectable summer beach brew..

A little alcoholy for my taste be very good. Piney and tropical/floral and very hoppy. Appears unfiltered, cloudy and with great, frothy head. Aromas are on par with the taste. Not bad.

Pours pale straw color, hazy, with a puffy white head that left webby lacing on the glass.

The aroma is bright with grapefruit hop notes. There is some pine and saviory notes. Sweet pineapple as well.

The taste is has more pine and onion flavors. Some grapefruit and pineapple. The malt is light and cracker like.

The feel is light with fizzy carbonation. Starts off sweet from the malt and boosted by the tropical fruit notes. A dry chalky bitterness comes in the finish.

A nice IPA. Good mix of pine, citrus and saviory hops.

A very nice yellow/golden hazy ipa with a small white head! Light lacing throught consuming. The smell was fruit, pine, malt dank. The taste was light cracker malt forward, followed by some fruit, pine, dank hop balance (not strong but light). The feel was light and refreshing. Overall i found it to be a good IPA!

Can with BB date of 08/27/17. Pour is a light hazy gold. Looks unfiltered. Frothy white head. Smell is citrus, hops, tropical fruit, salt water. Taste follows the nose. Also getting white bread and spritzy white wine. Finishes slightly bitter. Very refreshing with good carb. This beer represents Long Island almost perfectly in that you can envision waves and the smell of sea water. Not salty like a Gose, but very flavorful and drinks like a light beer. One of my new favorite NY brewers. I'll have to try their other offerings which, amazingly, is available at my local grocer down the street. If you see this, pick up a six pack. I think I'll be drinking this in volume during the summer. My new favorite beer in a can.

Has the look of a quality NE style IPA, clouded, lasting and frothy head, leaving nice looking lacing.

Ripe melon and pineapple on the sniff

Tasty IPA. ripe and mellow tropical fruit on the palate...more melon and more pineapple....these flavors are smooth and on the muted side, balancing things out with an undercoating of malts...quality and highly enjoyable IPA in a can, Long Island style...I like it...go get some of this widely available and high quality stuff

Visibly unfiltered IPA that goes off the usual path.
Not so much pine (as described) but more mango and melon taste and aroma.
Honey, slightly sweet malt with sea salt.
Very well balanced but complex.
Ever so slight bitter rind at the end.
Unique and incredibly delicious.
Top class.

Solid offering from this brewery. 120z can Poured into shaker pint. Light amber color with a nice head. Smells of pine, citrus, lemon. Tastes of orange peel, lemon, not too hop-forward -- just a mild bitterness that gets a bit lost in the citrus, finishes clean.

Can at 50F of Montauk wave chaser IPA 6.4% alcohol (contract brewed at westminister, MA) poured into a thin walled glass in March, 2017. Faint fresh aroma. Modest white head. Light amber color with some cloudiness. Taste is in the style of modern American IPA, but milder and softer. Not too much to recommend here. I much prefer the fine Montauk Driftwood.

CAN: Six packs in Brooklyn run $10.99 (~$12 with tax). Best by: -06/02/17. ~12 fl oz format. Standard pull tab.

6.40% ABV. "India pale ale."

HEAD: Fluffy white. Frothy and uneven. Fairly soft.

BODY: Hazy pale copper. Unfiltered. Slightly hazy. No yeast/lees are visible within.

Appears well-carbonated. Not a unique or special look for an IPA, but generally appealing.

AROMA: Tropical fruit, pale malts, floral hop notes, lemon, berries, soft resins.

Aromatic intensity is average to above average. No overt off-notes or booze.

TASTE & TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, coating, supple, medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Mouthfeel is well-executed.

Taste meets the mild expectations generated by the aroma, hitting lemon, generic floral hop flavour, and subdued tropical hop flavour while tempering any bitterness with pale malt sweetness. Nicely balanced, though simplistic and shallow. Subdued, yet enjoyable.

Flavour duration and intensity is average.

OVERALL: Definitely drinkable. A pleasant approachable brew with sufficient flavour. It won't dazzle the discerning drinker, but it's likeable fare for what it is, limited though its quality may be.

03/01/17 impression:

Refreshing and medium-bodied, with a crisp yet soft mouthfeel underscoring the pleasant floral and fruity hop flavours. Not piney at all to me, but vaguely tropical. Balanced though its hop profile is downplayed for a contemporary American IPA.

Drinkable enjoyable fare, though far from a stand-out in the (oversaturated) style.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Collins glass at Dick & Jane's. Best by 2 June 2017.
Lightly milky yellow. Transparent. Generous, pitted head. Heavy lacing. Lovely geometric purple can.
Smells like pineapple and orange peel. Pleasantly hoppy. I'm excited to taste it.
It's surprisingly piny and astringent, which I love. A touch of Simcoe-y onion amidst the very traditionally floral-bitter-arboreal-citrus-twist expectations. Malt is crisp without being too dry. A really lovely (I)PA. Drinkable, moreish, a hint of candied fruit on the end taste. Aftertaste is clean and only lightly bitter. Sure to pair well with food.
I'm really pleasantly surprised! I consider myself picky and jaded, but this is quite nice. Highly recommended as an everyday go to.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color. It poured with a finger and a half high white head that died down, leaving a thin head covering the surface and lots of lacy rings of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose along with notes of tropical fruits and hints of pine.
T: The taste follows the smell, with grapefruit flavors standing out in front of notes of tropical fruit and piney hops. There is a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer drinks very easily, but is packed with lots of aromas and flavors from the hops.

A-hazy orange, slight traces of a white head.

S- Overload of Orange and Orange peel.

T- simply superb. Not as orange forward as the nose but it is definitely the main player. More citrus fruit with zero bitterness. This is up there with some of the best fruity Ipa's that have become more and more popular.

M- medium carbonation that fits the flavour profile perfectly.

O- A newer local brewery producing an ipa like this is stunning....far exceeded my expectations. This is simply a great ipa.
