My wife and I eat and drink beer here quite a bit. Mississippi is still in its infancy as far as craft beer is concerned, but Weidmanns has always had a fair selection of beer considering what has been available in Mississippi. They recently got Lazy Magnolia's Timber Beast which gives them some serious brownie points with me.

We attended a beer tasting this past week at Weidmanns and we all thought it was very well done. Magnolia distributor sponsored it with multiple Abita offerings that are new to this area.

Food is always good to excellent. Have never really had a terrible meal here. Can get everything off the menu in the bar area upstairs as well.

Service is good in the restaurant and hit or miss in the bar upstairs. Occasionally you might get a yahoo working the bar, but it is good for the most part. The women servers in the bar are always very professional and attentive.

Servers are not very knowledgeable about beer at all, so don't even ask. If you are hung up on proper glassware and temperature, etc., just make sure to ask for exactly what you want. They have large and small tulips, pilsners, and snifters available.

Weidmanns is really a nice place in my opinion. It will probably always be my go-to place in town for food and drinks. I really hope Charles will cater to the craft beer crowd. The beer tasting the other night was a great start.

I was in Meridian for work and one of my customers picked this place.

It has a nice façade as you approach, I see it has been open since 1870.

As you enter the hostess station is right there and the bar area is straight ahead. There is a large dining room to your right and more rooms (and the bathrooms) upstairs.

The décor is lots of dark wood, exposed brick and large mirrors. All of the tables have small vats of peanut butter on them & crackers as it is part of their tradition which I thought was kind of cool.

The food menu is pretty extensive and more varied than I thought it would be. We had some excellent fried green tomatoes and cups of gumbo to start. I stayed traditional with some shrimp and grits, but others in our party had steaks, Chicken parmigiana, etc. Everyone liked the food.

Their draft beer menu was all beers brewed by Mississippi breweries. I had three beers and all were in top shape. They offer everything from a low ABV Pub Ales to higher ABV Stouts and Porters.

Our server was professional and on top of our food and drink orders. Added bonus was that he was a beer guy and was well versed in their offerings.

This was a great spot for our dinner, I will have to thank my customer for picking it out.
