This is a hidden in plain sight treasure in Providence. It's a small shop, but they tend to pack a punch. Staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant - they make you feel welcome even if it is just a "can we help you". The selection - for a small footprint - is incredible. They always have a new/special beer section that is well-stocked. The inventory of any one thing is usually small, but they have a wide range of choices including some hard to find items. Beer of the month - always something decent. It can get crowded and there's no shortage of PITA customers, but they seem to handle them quite well. Parking can be a zoo depending on the Whole Foods (next door) traffic, but usually not an impossible task. It's pretty easy to get to and the outside looks like an "old school" liquor store. Prices are usually lower than other nearby stores.

Update 3/2022 - selection has become very nicely curated with lots of different choices even though some of the beer section has been given over to ciders. At least two highly knowledgeable beer-mongers at least on weekends.

One of the main reasons I finally joined BA was to review this place. So in love with High Spirits. Not sure how they pull it off but they always have the hard to find beers first and continually have the lowest prices around. Really enjoy talking beer with the staff and have run into some of them out and about at beer bars and they always remember me and my wife and are so nice. Ultimately it's the selection that keeps me coming back in (probably more than my wallet would like me to) and why I always recommend them first when people need a new go to packy.

This is most likely the best craft beer store in Providence. Easy access with lots of parking.
The staff is knowledgeable and once you be come a regular they will " remind" you of what you're looking for. In addition to having a shelf with new and rare releases they always seem to be the first with these. They also have a "beer of the month" which is aways a quality brew that can be purchased at a discount. Lots of Imports in bombers and single bottles. Staff is helpful but not pushy. All that being said their pricing seems to always be lower then all the other locals. Great shop!

Best liquor store in Providence! From the moment you walk in you are greated by a very personable staff who will walk you through any selection whether it is wine, liquor, craft beer, etc. Their staff seems to be very educated on the new arrivals and the product they sell. The location is amazing (right next to whole foods) and the store is large, well lit and organized. I can't say enough good things about High Spirits, keep it up!

I moved out of the area about a year ago and I still go out of my way to stop in here at least once a week. Seriously killer selection of beers, especially sour beers which can be a daunting task to find. Well lit and clean, prices seem to be the lowest in Providence from what I can tell. Staff is always really friendly and helpful and loves talking beers. Really can't say enough good things about this place.

I consider High Spirits my go to spot. I love this place. Its a little on the smaller side compared to others in the area but damn they pack just as much craft brews in there as the others. Someone who works there must be a fan of Tetris. Anyhow they are always bringing in the newest freshest and coolest varieties. And what even better is a ton of em are available for their mix a six discount including bombers. How sweet is that? I've noticed they have beer tasting quite often. Huge cooler selection and although this is BEER advocate they have an impressive wine selection for your other half's. Crowd pleaser one might say. Prices are fantastic which is one of the top reasons I return so frequently. Employees are pretty chill sometimes I'll stay just chatting it up about new products and such. It can get very busy but they keep the lines flowing. Parking is also a plus its in a plaza with whole foods so there's usually ample parking unless a snow storms coming. Y'all should check it out. Heck I'll prob be there buying cases of beer when ya do. Fist bump High Spirits!

One of three excellent beer stores in Providence, along with Nikki's and Bottles. This is probably the cheapest, but with a very slightly smaller selection. Almost always satisfies my need for some delicious brew.

One of the two premiere beer stores in Providence. Terrific selection and ample cooler space. Mix-A-Six program also available with extra 10% off.

I stopped in based on the BA reviews. I work not far away but hadn't heard about this place. It's in a very busy shopping center so parking can be a challenge. The shop itself is pretty ordinary but the beer section in the back is fantastic. I picked up a Drie Fonteinin Golden Doesjel and a couple of six packs of Ithaca Flower Power to take back to NC. The prices were high, especially at $23 for the 375ml Golden Doesjel, but having not tried that one, I was willing. The young woman at the cash register was pleasant and either already into great beer or starting the journey. I was glad I made the stop and will be back again.

a perfect city craft beer liquor store located right next to wholefoods. far from being a warehouse they pack as much craft beer as possible in their space. the store has very high turnover on their products, always fresh dates on IPAs and I have yet to get a skunked bottle. their selections vary from the coolest german beers, to the trappist and sour ales of Belgium.
I have gotten KBS and bourbon county and Cantillon as they always post new releases on facebook. thanks high spirits!

Best store in Rhode Island hands down!!
Superior collection of hard to find craft ales. The staff was extremely helpful with my request.. High Spirits is definitely your go to in the heart of Providence R.I. Great knowledge and service on wines and spirits as we'll..
They were having a Six Point tasting as I strolled through the neatly stacks of craft beer. What a fabulous store!.. I will be back for sure.

One of the biggest mysteries to me is how so many people from Providence can be on this site yet I'm the first person to rate this place! Having been to many of the stores that people typically recommend I can say whole heartedly that this is the best beer shop in the city. Everyone jumps on the Nikki's bandwagon and I just don't get it. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid, people! And while Bottles tries puts up a good effort, I find their prices, selection and lack of a decent cooler section takes them completely out of the running. But enough about those other guys. Let me break down why I will always be Team High Spirits.

Location: They are on N. Main St in Providence in the Whole Foods plaza. Which means I can pop into the market and do some shopping, have ample parking, easy access to 95N and 95/S and be far enough away from the hectic-ness of downtown.

Selection: I have never walked out of there empty handed. In fact, I usually end up leaving with more than I planned on buying bc something alway catches my eye. Unlike other stores, they base their Mix N Match 6 pks on volume, not bottle amounts. This means I can buy 2 22oz bottles and 2 12oz bottles and still get 10% off. Awesome! They have a pretty big section of domestic singles on one side of their beer shelving and the other side is dedicated to imports and specialty items. I have noticed they have recently added a vintage section on the end cap as well where I was able to pick up 2012 Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, 2012 Madam Rose and a 2012 Brooklyn Black Ops. Score! Cooler is bigger than almost any other store in the city with everything you'd expect to see in there. Nothing too crazy but totally respectable. Really nice selection of cold singles that they rotate pretty frequently it seems.

Service: While it can get to be quite busy in there, especially on a Fri or Sat night, I haven't ever had a problem finding someone to help me pick something out, give me their reviews of a beer or look something up for me. I actually prefer going in on week nights because you can stay and chat with almost anyone who works there and feel like you're talking to people who genuinely love chatting about beer. Their beer manager even brought in Lamsbrau for my best friend, who is also Team High Spirits, who can only drink gluten free beer (I know, I feel bad for him too).

Overall I'd say HS is truly the most underrated store in Providence. They deserve way more love than they get on here. I hope at least a few people see this and actually check them out. Not too many of you though. I still want to be able to get some of the hard to find stuff before everyone else.
