Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Misty Mountain is a great example of the American-style India Pale Ale synonymous with Craft Beer. Originally brewed for sailors on shipping routes between England and India, British IPAs are known for their strong hop bitterness, which were added as a preservative for the long voyage. The American adaptation is decidedly stronger and offers a more robust hop bite. Back East IPA is no exception. This assertively hopped beer has a great hoppy aroma, crisp hop bite, and smooth medium body.

12oz can served in a pint glass
Pale copper in color with a finger or so of off white head that settles to a thin layer of bubbles after a minute or so. The smell is of some citrus hops but more in the way of earthy and spicy hops with a good dose of bready caramel malt as well. The malt is very present in the taste as well with a nice biscuity or bread like base. The hops are there as well with just a bit of citrus flavor but more in the way of earthy or resinous hoppiness. Overall there is a good dose of bitterness and that bitterness is very evident in the finish as it lingers nicely. A good but not great IPA, nice to see another brewery with potential in CT.

From the can. Sampled on Aug 20, 2015.

It is not bad to look at with its medium amber, moderately heady pour. Kind of cloudy.

The aroma tends to be more caramel malt forward with a back drop of resiny and fruity hops.

Medium body.

Like the aroma, the taste tends to begin with a roasted malt presence while the fruity and resiny hop bitterness emerges toward the end.

Served in a 12 oz. can at Barnum Publick House. Pours a nice amber color with a fluffy head head that sticks around. Smells like a balanced IPA, sweet malts with a gentle mix of hops. Taste is on the money for the aroma. Balanced, maybe leaning towards hoppy, but not excessively. It's very restrained and sweet, overall not bad but not great. Would probably not seek out.

3/16...pours from the can soft copper, heavy high white foam. Clingy and foamy. Malty bitter nose, grassy. Light bitter taste, toffee/bready pokes through. Good carbonation balances out. Tasty bitter with a touch of spice at the end. Crisp. Very good.

Above Average IPA for Connecticut Producer, a lot of hops a good color and aroma. Nice IPA to drink for the new to craft beer crowd.
