The label says this is kettle soured, but it's just slightly tart, fortunately. I think the process gets a bad name from heavy-handed technique. This is light, just tangy enough to be refreshing. The hops are quite lightly applied also. Fresh, flowery aroma. Sudsy mouthfeel with hints of grapefruit soda and a touch of touch of straw.

Clear and pale golden with fine-grained white foam. While it wouldn't compete well with the usual hop powerhouses, this is yet another of pFriem's light and elegant brews that are so pleasing to me. It was four bucks for the 500 ml bottle at the Pioneer Market in La Conner.

From BeerAdvocate magazine #129 (October 2017):

The beer pours a clear, pale yellow with a white lace. Its nose is ripe with mandarin orange and lemongrass, while the mouth is full of citrusy, rindy, zesty flavors with a sharp lemony bite, and suggestions of kiwi, green apple, passionfruit, and berries. There's a Chardonnay-like quality, too, along with a slight cheesiness and plenty of hoppiness. And while the flavors get intense, everything is well balanced and complementary.

pFriem's Sour IPA is a delicious IPA, without any intense bitterness (it's only 15 IBU). Plus, the controlled acid profile allows the desired hoppy, fruity, and sour elements to be distinctly noticeable yet still play well together.

From a 500 ml single into a tulip, this pours an absolutely beautiful dull semi-hazy gold with a 1 and 1/2 finger bright white head of tight microscopic bubbles, with very good retention. The nose is pretty potent and not entirely pleasant, but I keep coming back to it because it's different and I'm not sure if that's in a good way or not: a some musty sour grapefruit and lemon, some dull pith and peel, a little burnt grass, and overly sweet floral notes...for me, it has a very unique bouquet that leaves me a little unsure. On the tongue and mouthful, it's smooths out quite a bit, with modestly sour citrus notes balanced by a subtstantial-light and and almost creamy texture, that kicks in half-way through and wins out on the finish. Construction and integration is really solid. Definitely worth a shot and very unique. On a scale where simple pleasure is most important, this is pretty good but not great; if I'm looking for something out of the ordinary that takes a few risks, though, I'd probably go higher.

Pours light golden yellow with a little bit of chill haze and a frothy white head. Lemon, orange zest, and sage in the aroma. Flavor is clean with lemon, some grapefruit, and piney/herbal undertones. The feel is light and dry, with medium-high carbonation, almost no bitterness, and balanced tartness. Finishes quick and dry leaving the drinker wanting another sip almost immediately.

Bottle from New Seasons.

A clear yellow with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is intriguing. Tart, lactic, rather yogurt/buttermilk like with a frothy character, along with a noticeable dry hopped fruitiness. Floral, lemony, mildly peach like, along with a mild grassiness. The palate opens mildly lactic , earthy, lemony, clean and frothy. This is followed by a grassy and lemony dry hop note. Hop bitterness is minimal, leaning heavily on dry hopped flavors instead. Drying, tart and frothy on the finish, this beer is light in body and moderately carbonated. Yogurty on the finish, there are lingering notes of honey, grass and lemon. Solid.

16.9oz bottle served in a nonic pint. Bottled on 08-22-16. Given to me by @mr-jj.

Pours clear pale yellow with a smallish head and medium carbonation. Smell is very mild -- a little bit piney. Maybe a hint of tartness.

Taste is also very mild. Definitely a little bit of sourness (almost a lemon-water flavor), a tiny bit of floral hoppiness. Fairly watery.

Mouthfeel is thin and light. Overall, a surprisingly watery, boring beer.

Bottle share courtesy of Jeremy. Very pale golden body. Smallest of bubbly heads. Light aroma, picks up a bit in taste. White grape-like notes. Just enough tartness to go with the subtle hops. More sour than IPA, but good all around.

This is a tasty ale. Too light on the hops for an Ipa. Taste of a light malt , lemon. The sour lingers on the tongue. Body and lace are thin. This would be a nice ale for a hot day , working outside.

this is without question a fine ale, but the sour aspect is far less interesting and compelling than their lambic types, i would think this was done like a berliner with a warm and quick lacto souring process on the front end and then fermented out normally with ale yeast. that doesnt make it worse, just different, more simplistic here, but still real tasty and not so sour that you cant enjoy this one by the pint. very much on trend right now, this style is taking off like crazy, but there are a few things that makes it unique. the first is just how intense the hops actually are, not just a dry hopped acid bomb, but a truly oily and rich and fresh and dank hop complexion to this, more hoppy than nearly any other in its class i have had, still bitter in the end too, i love that. the other thing is how clean the base is, no mucky hazy washed out wheaty mess, its tidy and although simple, better. prominent acidity with a little lemon but more pucker than flavor, the hops do all of that. overall a really fun and tasty beer, these guys can do no wrong in my book right now!
